Skype is by far the best video/internet phone program out there. However, there are a couple key ingredients that I believe it is missing. We need an option to put the video conference window "always on top". Additionally, a picture capture or video record feature would be nice too.

Thoughts?

The main reason I moved to Skype is for the encryption of all my correspondence. The only thing that Skype is missing, in terms of functionality, is "always on top" or "stay on top" or "keep on top of other windows." I was surprised to see version 3.0 of Skype still does not have this feature, which as a programmer I know is very simple to add. Therefore, being an opensource junkie, I found this....

http://sourceforge.net/projects/dm2/

It runs in your system tray and allows you to assign any window as "always on top". You can also minimize any window to the tray, as well as assign opacity and processor priority. I could program this myself in an hour, but why bother. The DM2 does it all for me and it's completely free!!! Rock on you OpenSource Geeks! We're rooting for YOU!!!!!

As far as I know this feature hasn't been added to Jira yet, which means that Skype developers might not be aware that people want to have it. So, I suggest you to make a new Jira issue for it and then we'll see if/when it will be implemented.

Jira is also good because everybody can Vote for that issue to make our developers see how demanded some new features are.

If your running a newer nvidia card...the nvidia desktop manager will allow you to make it on top of all other windows...atleast until a feature is added. You can also do it programmatically in VB or C or whatever with a client app for skype...or just as a utility...but...downfall is your app would have to be running all the time too. And you definately don't want another app that is just for that heh...well you might depends on how badly you want it...

But yeah Robulus...I agree Open source is the only way to go...I remember using DM2 before too...forgot all about that app....

For nvidia cards using forceware drivers just enable the desktop manager features in nview...
This of course is me taking for granted you are running windows...
