Full Version: Completely Skype-based PBX?

I'm looking for a completely Skype-based PBX. If I'm asking too much today, I know that this is the way that products may intitally go. I have done some searching and have not yet seen a PBX that can be used in the following way:
  • All calls to a main number come in to a single device/computer that has an auto-attendant.
  • This auto attendant transfers a call to another pre-set skype user when the appropriate extension is entered
  • If a call comes in and a receptionist is available, he/she will be able to answer the call via a computer with Skype
  • That person can then forward the call to another Skype user in the office
If we can do this, we will not need analog phones, expensive PBX boxes, or lots of phone lines.

Does anyone know of anything like this, or close to this? Thanks!

AIVMS can do most of what you ask. It will answer incoming calls and automatically route the call to a specific Skype contact. Right now it is limited to routing calls to a single "Admin" contact, but we could customize it to allow an extension number to be entered for routing to other contacts if there is enough interest.

A "human" receptionist can take the incoming call and route the call manually to any contact in the Skype client contact list. A normal POTS line number can be added as a SkypeOut contact, so the receptionist can even route the calls to an associates home phone or cell phone if desired.

The real challenge is simply dealing with calls from a normal POTs line or cell phone; DTMF tones from normal phones need to be recognized correctly, and AIVMS is one of the only systems that can recognize DTMF tones from normal phones in addition to the tones submitted during Skype to Skype calls. With that functionality you can do just about anything, just a matter of some customization for a particular need.

Another nice feature is the DTMF remote control capability of AIVMS. This allows you to call into your SkypeIN number using ANY phone and place an outgoing Skype call. The call can be to one of your Skype contacts or to any normal phone number. It can also be to another AIVMS node located anywhere in the world, so for example you call your cental office node with your home or cell phone, and then connect to a Japan office node with a subsequent external "SkypeOut" call placed at local Japan SkypeOut rates.
That same scenario applies in the opposite directlon, so someone in a different country can call their local AIVMS node, connect to an AIVMS node located in the US or Canada, and then place any call to the US and canada for free.

I know Telbox and jumper can setup one virtual skype phone before your PBX system, but still need your PBX to transfer the call.

Check out CallButler http://www.callbutler.com. They are a newcomer, but by far the easiest and best PBX/IVR/AutoAttendant for Skype available today.

You can try PrettyMay Skype PBX software for Windows, which allows SMBs to quickly and affordably implement a Skype PBX (aka PABX) system with auto-attendant, interactive voice response (IVR), Automatic Call Distribution (ACD), call recording and personalized voicemail capabilities - and a lot more as well.

You can see a video demo to learn how it works:
