I want to know if there's any chance that the conversation (especially type chat) could be monitored??
I live in China and I really want to to be sure of that.

Hello!

In connection with security, someone has altered my user details without my knowledge. How can this happen?

Reece, what do you mean when you say "please don´t spam your questions" ???

Surely, you are not telling a user off becuase he wasn´t familiar with the official help page or previous threads on the matter?

Thank you.

I would say yes, in China everything is possible.
There was a news about someone in China that was able to produce a clone of Skype

"We" are not sure about the security of Skype as it's not open source, thus not verifiable. It's a good thing not to trust black boxes when you live in a country where you are in fact in danger. Skype *could*, in theory, have - for instance - a back door installed, or just an undocumented security exploit.

Now that might seem a bit far fetched to some. More eminent is the security risk you have on your own computer. You have to be absolutely sure no one has installed, say, a trojan horse, or a cracked version of Skype (if such exists) that enable others to spy on your connections.

Also, using network sniffing, it would very well be possible to trace to who and when you are calling (without knowing the contents of the conversation.)

Lastly, when you use chat, I believe your conversations are stored on your computer (though I have no clue as to what format)

skype is definitely NOT safe. I got hacked through it which is why I will never use it again.
All it takes is for one of the systems that is being used as a relay to be compromised and you might as well turn all your security off.

Please explain what happened. Your account can only be hacked when someone got hold of your password.

hate to sound like i'm taking the mic... but on this very forum someone once posted that they got hacked... i asked them to send me an e-mail with the details (out of pure interest, nothing else)... and it appeared that person had actually accepted a file transfer, thinking it was a picture, which was infact a torjan/data logger... and so they blamed skype... in such cases...it's not a skype issue... accepting and opening files are like accepting them via e-mail and then running them, not a skype issue... so....

my offer to you, is the same as that to the last person, if you like feel free to send me a lil pm or e-mail about what makes you think you got hacked through skype... and i'll see if i can offer some assurances that might convince you otherwise... sometimes all it takes is for someone to stand back and reconsider the events.

lol, how are you interpreting the word "mic".... i meant it as "mick"... not as microphone. ... hmm, both interpretations seem to fit in.

Old post, let's bump this up. The truth of the matter is, that as long as the code is closed, we won't know what Skype is doing behind our backs will we? Of course not, don't say this is not true. Because all you can tell consumers is to trust.

Skype is a part of Ebay and PayPal two very evil companies, very unethical business practices!

As long as Skype keeps the code closed all users should look eleswhere for something open-sourced...
