You have got to install third party software like Festoon [1] or Spontania [2] for example.

[2] http://www.video4im.com/

I believe festoon is able to make multiple video conferences.

I guess 1 feed videoconferencing will be easier to implement and lighter in bandwidth. Will allow presentations and make Skypecasts more interesting.

I do hope Skype will consider adding multiple video conferecing calls instead of just video for one on one. It would be helpful as a feature to use video for several calls at one time for my use of conference call features. Years ago I used a program called CU-SEEME ... so it shouldn't be too hard to make this work here, the ability to do this has been around a long time.
Sasamilka
so, can now skype support multiple user video conference ? or still cannot ?
rocketman
No Skype is still 1 to 1 video conferencing but you can use a third party program to do what you want.

VIDEO CONFERENCING >> For Three or More IS A MUST. yes.png
SKYPE is a fantastic service .... very user friendly and feature rich !!
with voice conferencing ....... Now if only they could add VIDEO for three or more
users..... it would be perfect !!!. I would encourage each of you to wirte customer
service or tech support and give them your input. Maybe the squicky wheels devil.png
will get some grease.

I am for video conferencing... mac does it up to 4 people... which would be plenty... Festoon is good, but it screws up the audio... like it has cotton stuck in the mic... strange! I am with Vonn on this... we are the ones making Skype rock... now let's have them push it harder!

Best way to get a conference up to 4 ppl is here:

http://www.globalipvideo.com/

Enter a conference name.
Tell yr friends the name of that conference and you can see each other and talk with skype.

I think it's about time Skype woke their sh*t up and released a proper plugin for video conferencing. The demand is there, they have the technology, why not let us have it?
This whole thing is being suppressed until they can find some way of making money from it and that really grinds my gears. And the move with Intel won't help at all; they need to stay open source because that's where their user base comes from. And if Intel has anything to do with it, they'll be charging for the next download release. As if they don't already have enough money. I'm not saying AMD would be any better, nor would any other company (ebay for example....) , I just think Skype would be better off staying independent.
We have been waiting too long. Somebody is going to release something better and more functional and FREE and then Skype really will lose all their users to a much better developer...... So I wish them good luck with the future, because as soon as they tell everyone "You have to pay!" they will be well and truly F*$%ed.
Here ends my rant for the day.

Hey partystarta!

You must be smoking something very strong!

No one has 1:1 video better than Skype for $100

The new Logitech Cams delivery almost all of the performance of a $1200 Sony Cam

Quit xxxxx and just enjoy the show. smile.png

Lets see here Bill.. why rant? because people are pissed off that they are not getting proper support, thats why.. and the sooner you dumbasses over there at Skype figure this out.. Then the sooner you will have
less people, AND I QUOTE "xxxxxxx whining".
For such an OLD looking guy giggle.png .. you sure act like a 10 year old. And by the way.. I like how you never responded to what I had to say to you in MY thread.. maybe you can have the guts to say something here.
Bottom line Bill.. no new Skype users like to be told "Quit xxxxxxx whining and just enjoy the show"
REGARDLESS of what kind of problem they may or may not have..Grow up, and get some manners.

Did Skype EVER have multi-party video-conferencing, perhaps in some beta-version? Odd question, perhaps, but I seem to remember having a conference call with three people some years back and two of us used video. A friend of mine has a similar memory. Or are we crazy?

No, i never saw video conferencing IN the Skype client!

But try this: http://www.mebeam.com/.

The tool is amazing, a "one man" developed application, by an Aussie guy!

skype.png knows him, for sure!

I just talked to my mum. She remembers it too. I guess insanity runs in the family.

Anyway, thanks for the link, I'll try it out.

It was meant as a joke ... your reply too i guess bigsmile.png

Probably you used "some years back" Video4Skype or vSkype. If i remember well, the second one had videoconferencing. None of them were related to Skype!

Both were "killed" by Skype:
  1. they had to remove "Skype" from their brand and product name
  2. and Skype launched its own video inside the client

That is how Skype behaved with some of the early developers of tools for Skype!

So, you, your friend and your Mum are not completely insane! tongueout.png

My video calls work on Skype very well in the main. However, my family is spread across the world, so I thought that I would download Spontania so that we could have a 4 way video conferance. It never works; am I doing something wrong or is this a general experience?

Sorry, I can't answer your question, but until somebody does I wanted to repeat Jean Mercier's tip earlier about using www.mebeam.com for video and doing the audio by skype. I find it works quite well if all you want to do is see each others faces.

It works in most situations, but the process can be confusing to users.

after the call is launched from the spontania app on the Host PC, a link will be sent by IM to the people called (Participants). users need to click the link to install an activex app. (only supported on IE and Firefox) At the same time, the host must also download the activex program (app will launch this action on Host PC at time call is answered), and it needs to be running on Host PC first or there will be an apparent failure on participant side. (if participants get it running first and it fails, they can retry after the host gets it going)

Certain combinations of NAT type are not able to be traversed, in those cases there are two options.
1. enable UPnP on your router. If this does not work try option 2
2. set a manual port forward on your router, and specify the port in the options panel in Spontania
(in Spontania 'Tools' menu select 'Options', change to Manual if you are doing port forward method)

Also at that menu location you will see options for upload bandwidth. If you check your upload/know it is higher than the minimum, then select a higher setting to achieve higher quality video transmission.

Hope this helps

Hey Guys, what do you know... Spontania is gone, we won't be getting any suppert from them.

Video conferencing for up to 6 participants works very well in ooVoo
tap
ooVoo is OK - only works in Windows and Mac, though - but they now only allow three-member conferences in the free version. Plus lots of very annoying banner ads, and an over-fancy interface.

It's very odd that Skype, who presumably considers itself the market leader, still hasn't managed to come up with the goods on this.
philippz
For example in Paltalk one can see video from 10 or more people at once!
