In de hoop dat er ook nederlandstaligen onder de gebruikers zijn !!!!
Enige tijd geleden Siemens Gigaset S450 + M34 aangeschaft.
Voorlopige conclusie : miskoop !!!

Hi ivo1952,

I use the M34 usb dongle with a S445 base station for more than a year and it works -great-. Here are some tips:

- make sure that you download the latest Siemens M34 software from (now 36 / 725) :

http://gigaset.siemens.com/shc/0,1935,hq_e...00.html#content

- unplug the M34 dongle, install the software and replug it when the installation tells you to. You might have to reboot once or twice if you had an earlier version installed.

- after the installation, make sure you also update the firmware of the m34 dongle using the shortcut that was created: "Gigaset M34 USB - Firmware Update".

- make sure you are running the latest version of Skype. If you get a message from Skype asking if the gigaset software (might be labelled as "SKYPECLIENT.EXE from Siemens AG") is allowed to connect to Skype - answer yes/always.

- in the Skype options go to Sound Devices, uncheck "Let Skype adjust my sound device settings" and set Audio In, Audio Out and Ringing to "Cordless Audio Interface".

- run the M34 software, called "Gigaset M34 Software" under the Windows Start menu and:

* under M34 USB / Configuration: set name to Skype, register with your base station (probably already been done as part of the installation).
* under Skype menu: select the option "Display the entry Skype in the handset menu". Under "selected handsets for incoming Voip calls" select "All".

Yes the Siemens software was giving many problems in the early days (a year and a half ago) but it's very stable now. Hope this helps.

I should clarify as I got an email asking me this. Yes the Siemens software says to only use the Skype version that came bundled with it (a very old 1.x version). That was probably a requirement when the M34 came ou and Skype didnt support external phones.

But this is NOT true anymore. Use the latest Skype version! I'm now on 2.5.0.130 and the M34 software works great.

Hi Zorglub

- Download new software = ok
- Install new firmware = ok
If I go to the gigaset M34 software, the screen " configuration" gives now : Software version 01.039.00 and Hardware version 7 : Is this correct ?.

- The Siemens helpdesk Belgium can lurn a lot of thinks from you, They didn't about new firmware for the S450.

- For this moment everything is working, I have an in- and out ringtone, the voice voeume is stable. No probems, everything is solved.

1000 x thanks, yes.png yes.png

Yes, that's the latest version. Mine is hardware version 6 but that's because I have an older dongle than you.

Glad these instructions helped you. I wish Siemens would have better instructions. It took me a little bit of fighting to get to the perfect configuration. But now that it works I think it's great to have Skype integrated with your normal phone. And btw, did you know that you can both be skyping on one handset and calling an external number on another handset, very handy.

Enjoy

Hey guys, I'm willing to buy this Siemens S455 (or 450), and I was wondering whether it will work under linux... do you have any experience with that?
Is anyway the phone fully working with skype? Like it rings when they call you, you can see the contacts on it, etc.
Thanks a lot for now!

It will definetly not work under Linux (or on Mac). All the drivers are currently only for Windows.

Yes, it rings when they call you (and displays who is calling), you can see your contacts and dial someone, you can use SkypeOut, etc. The nice thing about the Siemens solution vs one of the many usb skype phones is that then Skype is available through all the Dect Siemens phones that you kight have around the house (3 in my case).
MarcoPau
Damn, the fact that it runs only under linux really sucks. I see there's a group of people which is developing some drivers for the siemens phones. Hope they'll build up something for the S450/455.
Well thanks again.

It seems that you know a whole lot about this feature! I am using Skype now for a few months and integrated in my siemens s450 phone and all works well. I have the same software version as written above (01.039.0) and the latest version of skype. The funny thing is that now and then it seems that I can't have no contact from my phone to my computer. When I select "int2" it shows an empty display and it waits...untill what?? Normaly I would expect to see the screen whit skype and after my buddy list. The other way around, when somebody calls me, I recieve the call, or the text message without delay. Do you have any idea why this happens?? And what I could do. Or does my s450 also need an update?

Hope you (or somebody else....) can help me!!
MarcoPau
Hey, I saw there's the Siemens C450IP which can call over ip also when the computer is off, having a direct connection to the router. Can the S450/455 do the same? Thank you for the information

Guys,

I use the 440 + 1 extra handset all conected to my M34.

It is true that it was sometimes buggy (choosing "ALL" handsets would not work ..therefore ringing only 1 would work) a while ago but it seems to work fine now after upgrading the siemens software.

I also bought the philips VOIP321 for work ... I have not decided which one is best but I would like to place a call using my mouse and listen/talk using the phone. It does not work with the VOIP321. I have not tried with the M34.

I think I discovered why the Freeze happens: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=65872 Maybe you're using Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall as well.... anyway this seems all to be related to skypeclient.exe which freezes and or is extremly slow. Maybe Siemens needs to update that as well....

I use ZoneLabs as a firewall adn it took me a while but you are right. When I exlude, before starting the apllication, the folder with the programm files for skype and M34.... It works unstoable... perfect!! No hickups, no hanging programms, no failure, quicker response... Everything better! yes.png Thanx a lot!! bigsmile.png

@Gertje: NP, I finally was happy as well wink.png

What I do not understand is the fact, why both Firewall Packages (ZoneLab/Sunbelt Kerio) which block TCP/IP or UDP Traffic does freeze Skypeclient.exe. As far as I know does the Interface to Skype not consists of Network connections.

And for bad quality: When I use Skype with the M34 Adapter and the Gigaset everything is fine. But when I use the Soundcard of the PC (integrated Audio) after a while really crazy and ugly noises can be heard by the person I'm talking with and I hear some gaps. Can the Audio Driver of my system do these Noises?

I did what zorglub described and everything worked properly.

I had a problem with my handset. the clocktime went behind. I reset The gigaset.

Now i have the following prblem:

Ik have in the skype settings:

- unchecked "Let Skype adjust my sound device settings" and set Audio In, Audio Out and Ringing to "Cordless Audio Interface".

When I make a phonecall from my handset the options Audio In and Audio Out are changed into
windows standard device. Ringing stays in Cordless Audio Interface.

When I change the settings during the call, on my computer, they are changed.
Again when I finish the call the settings are set into Windows standard device.
And I still heve unchecked "Let Skype adjust my sound device settings.

Did somebody had this strange thing?

sadsmile.png I have three S44s and a S645 base station and of course the M34.

1. When I boot the PC up and try to use the M34 the handset says it can't find it. If I then start the M34 software and close it again it works fine. Surely it should do this automatically?

2. When I make a call using skype I can't hear the other end untill I change the volume, which won't save?

I have the "Let Skype adjust my sound devices" unchecked

Any ideas anyone. Please

Looks like that skypeclient is not loaded automatically at system boot. The whole M34 software (dialer blocker, isdn monitor, ...) or only skypeclient.exe is not loaded?

That is a known limitation for me. I found no way to change this and this is sadsmile.png for me as well!

The "Let Skype adjust my sound devices" is for windows audio only, this is not the audio setting in the handy. Windows can not control the volume within a gigaset handset. This is controlled by the handset IMHO.

@all:
some news: I'm still in contact with siemens about the firewall issue. Additionally I realized that Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall is full of Bugs (even in the latest version) that prevents different programs to start properly. I completely removed the firewall (which is a desktop firewall only, so having one is a security risk probably anyway) and now everything works fine. I assume the errors are based in the kernel driver module of the firewall that tries to control which prorgrams can start and which not. This doesn't seem to be 100% compatible with all windows executeables. Disabling that module within the kerio firewall did not change anything, so this is really buggy with sunbelt kerio personal firewall. I can not recommend any other personal firewall.

Hello Lexio,

I have exactly the same issue, I'm running Skype with S450 + new drivers + new firmware + latest skype version. In the Skype menu I use "Cordless Audio Interface" for all my audio peripherals and I SAVE.

But when I make a call using my handset I hear nothing in the phone and instead the sound come through the PC speakers !!

Has anyone solved this issue ?

halpha
hi all,
i've read your interesting posts, but none helps me with my s450 with m34: my problem is simply that the gigaset sw doesn't show any option to connect skype, only msn, icq, aol, yahoo, no mention anywhere of skype. the m34 is anyhow successfully connected to the base of the s450. Currently I have the following configuration:

sw gigaset version 01.032.00
hw gigaset version 6
w98se
skype 1.4.0.84

I suspect that part of the problem is that I'm using w98se on this machine that I use as internet "server", and I cannot upgrade skype, nor the gigaset sw because they both require xp or 2000...EVEN IF the M34 system/software specifications say that it can run under w98se as well....

any suggestions??

thanks a lot

cheers

For your information I have in fact solved my issue by downloading the latest version of the M34 software and included Skype version from the Siemens site. I reinstalled their version and everything works great. I think that the culprit was the fact that I was using the latest version of Skype instead of the one customised by Siemens.
