Hello,

sorry but i've skim through all the sound problem questions but i can't seem to find one for my problem.
I can use Skype 1.2 to make one call allright but the second i try another one, Skype respond with "Problem with sound device". I have to shut it down and then restart it for one shot again.
Anyone seen this before ?

Use beta version and make sure you go to Tools->Options->Sound devices and select ALSA sound system (alsa support is not available in skype 1.2).

I am also having this problem now. I use to "killall esd" to fix but that doesn't seem to be working now. I'm using the Beta version and sound is set as Alsa. In fact, I think that was the default after installing.

I'm also having the problem. I have Ubuntu dapper and Skype 1.2. Will try to install the beta, and do the alsa thing.

It also opens in app. 1 minute after i click to start skype.

Try deleting or renaming "hangup.wav" located in usr/share/skype/sound
Trane Francks
1.2.0.18_API has a known problem with hangup.wav. Rename or delete the file and the device will be released correctly upon call termination.

[ Edit: Had a actually read the post above a little more carefully, I would have seen the question was already correctly answered. Honest. Yep. Really. ]

I read a post somewhere that the hang-up.wav tone was a problem.
I fixed it on my Linux system by renaming the hang-up.wav to hangup.wav
this fixed it but I am sure this was fixed in the later Linux Skype versions
