Hi,

The current timezone implemention in skype can be a bit misleading when it comes to summer/daylight savings time. Is there any way to relate the timezone received with the usual non daylight saving time GMT offset?

My problem is that the external application stores timezones as a GMT offset and then calculates summer/winter time. So (for example), for people in Central Europe, the timezone offset as shown by skype is GMT+2 during summertime. So storing GMT+2 in the application database appears like the contact is in (for example) Estonia instead of Berlin.

Similarly, for someone in Australia, the timezone offset as shown by skype now (August) is GMT+10. This is correct for now, as there is no daylight savings in Australia yet, but could obviously be misleading when they switch. The skype implementation, although correct (Europe is GMT+2 during summer) does not follow Windows implemention (not sure about Unix, Mac) under Date/Time Properties.

So my question is, how can I easily determine if the time returned by skype should be offset or not for summer time - especially since I do not necessarily know the contacts location? Or is this impossible?

Advice appreciated.

I got the same problem.

Take for Example a contact in Mexico. The time difference between Norway and Mexico is 7 hours.

Now, during the summer al ltimes was perfectly calculated, I was set to GMT+1, and my MExican contact was on GMT-6. And the time was calculated with the right 7 hours difference.

But now. When daylightsavings started in both countries, the time displayed is wrong. Btoh fgor me and for the contact, and to correct this I have to change my timezone apparently. And likewise for my coantact, and this is both annoying AND misguiding. IS there ny way to fix so that I can stil lbe in "GMT+1" but have the right time set, with the added daylightsavings?
(OR do the timezones actually change during daylightsavings? but that would make an issue comared to countries outside daylightsavings?)
