Guys,

Calling your Skype buds from a mobile is no longer cheap…it’s FREE!
Forget long distance or international charges.
I found this great tool called Vox for Skype. Took 2 mins to install on my PC AND it’s free!
What it does: it lets you call your skype contacts directly from your mobile.
It works with all phones. That’s right! No need to buy a smart phone or upgrade anything.

Check it out: www.Voxlib.com

James

PS: They also got this contest going on. If you simply register to try VOX you could win xbox 360, a polycom and daily 50bucks thinkgeek.com gift certificates.

James,

I couldn't find how to install only how to pre-register. It will be launched September the 11th. I received a comment on this date on my blog

VoxLib may well claim to be free, but by the time you have sent an SMS from your Mobile to the Skype SMS number, giving it an International number to dial, skypeout has dialled back your mobile, and the international number you want to call, you are paying far more than simply using a landline to call the international number in the first place. Ten minutes from UK to USA on a BT landline is just under £1.

Skypeout calling your mobile is almost that for five minutes, plus cost of skypeout call to the USA, plus cost of SMS message from your mobile to the Skype SMS message.

So the benefits presumably relate to convenience of using your mobile to access skype, and do not provide significant cost savings, except perhaps vis-a-vis mobile international rates as opposed to routing them through skype.

Or have I misunderstood the economics of this technology?

AIVMS software allows you to use any phone to place Skype calls (both Skype to Skype and SkypeOUT). You just call your SkypeIN number and command the AIVMS system with a press of your ordinary phone or cell phones dialpad. Its as easy as dialing out from a business phone. You dont need to mess around trying to send SMS messages and incurring other charges just to place a Skype call with your cell phone. giggle.png

Most people are amazed that once they install AIVMS they no longer even need to use a microphone with Skype, they can just use that nice name brand cordless phone or cell phone they already have instead.
You can allow family, friends, or associates to place Skype calls from their own phones or cell phones, as the AIVMS system is not limited to use by a single phone: An AIVMS equipped PC can provide Skype service to an entire company. smile.png
cheapskate
Thanks but I'm not sure you've answered coldwaterjohn's point ie not everybody gets free calling minutes on their mobile (cell phone). If you don't it seems that you have to pay your mobile (cell phone) provider for the call to SkypeIn. You then get charged by Skype for a SkypeOut call back to your mobile (cell phone). If that's not correct could you please explain how the charging works? For those of us not familiar with telephony, is AIVMS the technical term for the VOXLIB software?
GMPCM
AIVMS is not associated with VoxLib in any way. AIVMS is an application that we developed here at GMPCM.
You install AIVMS on an Internet connected Windows XP system, and then when you call into your SkypeIN number with your cell phone or any landline phone, you can place a Skype call to any Skype contact or to another landline or cell phone. There is no SMS or anything else required. IOW, it is just as if you were at your computer making the call with Skype, with the only additional cost being local minutes charged by your cell phone provider to call your SkypeIN number. If you were to call from a normal landline phone (your home phone for instance) to the AIVMS system, and place a call to a Skype contact, it would be completely free no matter where in the world that contact happens to be located (the same as any Skype to Skype call).

The AIVMS artificial intelligence answers the call coming in on your SkypeIN number, and then you press 2 digits on your phones dial pad to place a call to a Skype contact. There is actually an entire menu of functions available when you call into your SkypeIN number.

Press 1 for ActiveHome
Press 2 and preset number for call out
Press 2 and * for preset list
Press 3 for system status
Press 4 to change transfer options
Press 5 for traffic report
Press 6 for weather
Press 7 for relay control
Press 8 to hear email messages
Press 9 and number followed by # to dial out

The above is a full list of possible commands, the actual list you would be presented with depends on the options you have installed. For example, ActiveHome is an optional home automation control system, AIVMS allows you to control an entire home automation system using a landline phone, a cell phone, or even another Skype client.
The preset list is a list of your Skype contacts that are currently online ready to accept Skype calls, you just press the number 2 along with a preset number and you are connected to the corresponding Skype contact. The "transfer options" allow you to change the phone that incoming Skype calls are routed to.
To place a SkypeOut call you just dial a 9 along with the phone number.

You can use multiple phones with the AIVMS system, so if there happens to be a landline phone close by you can just use it instead of your cell phone and you would not incur a local cell phone charge. A single AIVMS system can provide Skype calling to all the phones within your family or to an entire business for that matter.

The AIVMS system works so well that you no longer even need a microphone to use Skype, as it's just as easy to pick up your home phone and place the Skype call with it. Any incoming Skype calls are automatically routed to your phone, so you can just toss the microphone. smile.png

Has anyone compared Voxlib and PrettyMay? It seems they both offer similar services. PrettyMay uses only SkypeIn to make the connection. Voxlib offers either SkypeIn or SMS to make the initial connection.

Does one need skypeIn to use voxlib? SkypeIn is not available in Norway!

Silly question perhaps....once you have downloaded this software on to your p.c., does your pc need to remain switched on for the magic connections to operate, or can your p.c. be switched off, and you can call your SkypeIn number from the other side of the world to use your skype service?

It sounds a bit like the precursor to the Skype To Go service, which is now available. Is that fair comment?
