Full Version: disappointment with FC-2 version

First, let me say how very disappointed I am to yet again see a poorly desisgned
website. Why is it so unreasonable to expect the text to display word-wrapped with in
the web browser, instead of this nonsenses of having to constantly scroll left and right ??
Is it now posible to design this so that it WORD-WRAPS to the users Web Browser!
Honestly!

Second, I have several issues with the Beta release (d/l-ed yesterday) for Fedora Core
2... for one thing it ALWAYS defaults to asking for a NEW sign-up instead of having the
sense to know I already signed up... I would have it defaulting AFTER install, to the
Login page, NOT new user create-account... sheesh

Also, trying to display "profiles" causes it to appear BEHIND the search dialog which
unless some-1 had the good sense to move it around would NEVER know something
was displayed there!

WHY on earth wasn't the GUI of Skype designed to properly recognize SCREEN
RESOLUTION! these darn panels are being displayed in apparently 1024x768
INSTEAD of properly reading the System-Metrics (monitor resollution, fonts, etc.) !?!?

Attempting to display additional user information in the Search panel ALWAYS
causes a Seg-Fault !! Shuts Skype down totally.... apparently the program can be
re-run. Anything places into "contacts" is lost.

Apparently in the FC-2 version, there is no way to know if users are actually online or not BEFORE calling them. Apparently data is up to
3 days old which explains a few things....

Fedora Core 2 Sound Card Ques:
I have ReZound, its a program to recording waves, etc...
This works 100% for recording waves with a sound card/microphone.
(PCI Creative/Ensonig ens-1371)
Since this works with ReZound, would I be able to expect that this sound card/mic,
WILL work with Skype? Or is that expecting far too much from Linux.
I really am disappointed how troublesome Sound Card issues are...
yet just install a Video capture card, usb-zippy or other device, and PRESTO!
takes right off with no problems! Sound-cards...whamo! dead-end for many users!

email replies welcomed, or call me on Skype using 'sirskeptic',
GAIM/AIM using 'SirSkeptic'

This might be ground-breaking p2p technology, but those doing the programming for the Linux version have a LONG way to go!

ALSO: There really MUST be a WORKING Win98SE version of Skype.
WinXP is just NOT everyone's cup of (putrid) tea! And I know quite a
few people who would LOVE to HEAR that Skype is fully tested and
found COMPATIBLE with Win98SE. News on this is highly appreciated.

I have had no audio contacts with Skype yet. Only text-box messages.

Would be nice if someone had time to volunteer as a "Testing" station,
where people could log in for a brief time solely to test their Sound card/microphone. Just a thought. :-)

Thanks!

This morning we released 0.91.0.3 which defaults to existing user login.

There should no longer be any crashes in the search window. If you get them, please describe what you did in more detail.

You can call the user "echo123" to test your sound setup.

My god you're a disagreeable person - talk about ripping something to pieces.

Also, I have to say that anyone still using win98 is in my opinion, a moron - for chrissakes its 6 years old! I could understand if you were using win2000 as thats very stable, but 98SE???
XP is fine as long as you turn off all its "helpful" features and revert the interface to 2000.
