For any links in the live tab (this includes the "about skypecasts" link), they do not open in the default browser (opera 9.01 final in my case) but only in MSIE 6

Thank you Raul,
- Well it would be great if we could have our choice respected. I mean that the user decides on which browser to use. And once he has made a choice to use Opera or other non IE compliant browser, Skype should warn the user in a special designed UI dialog that this user's choice is not supported and the dialog should offer him to use IE or whatever exists in the user's OS and is Skypecast compliant. As an alternative choice.
- I will be glad to hear from you:
1. Why is Opera not supported? (The 9th version is fully ACID2 compliant, IE is not)
2. What you gonna do to make rework your skypecast pages to make'em fit to Opera? (This is because Active X is a proprietary technology that presents a non standard (closed) approach which is less user friendly...)
3. Beside this there are Mac users, Linux users, etc. I think you could not make them use the IE in order to benefit from the ne Skypecast technology, could you?
Best regards,

1. Opera was supported in older versions so I guess it's just a bug
2. & 3. I totally agree!

So please make it all compatible!

RaulLiive admits this is a
know issue. I guess that will be addressed in the near future. But my main concern is the closed skypecast concept that will left the non IE users out of choice.
Opening an activex link in Opera does nothing.
In this context one of the way to integrate Opera should be the UserJS routine. I was told that. Here is what Vladimir Guergiev (Bulgarian lead translator of Opera) told me in a private chat:
+
UserJS are kind of scripts, that let the programmer to modify the browser, and change its behaviour depending on the active content.
A library of ready to use scripts is available at
http://userjs.org/On the right side there are links about this question:
http://userjs.org/help/tips_and_tricks/http://userjs.org/help/tutorials/http://userjs.org/help/resources/Your devs should study this and once they became familiar with the UserJS possibilities they could decide on the level of Opera integration they could accomplish using the UserJS features.

Hi!
The problem is in fact, that we use IE internally on the Live Tab. We are not happy with that, unfortunately there is no easy way to embed other browsers. And, of course, IE opens url in IE. we are investigating possibilities to overcome this, though.

and yet there you suggest to use UserJS which is Opera specific as fas as I understand?

Yeah User JS is Opera specific and means the homepage will act different then, but in this case it won't help because the site does not even open in Opera but directly in IE, I believe.
If you were able to let URLs in the past 3 years open in the OS default browser (I use Skype since its very first version and Opers since 6 years), then you will be able to do this also in future

Hi Kido and thank you for your fast answer :-)

I know it's too complicated to achieve (as I have studied the Skype plugin for IE internaly). I realise that it will be difficult to build an embedded mini-browser that will make the current procedures more friendlier. I appreciate your efforts and admire your work to bring the Skype's UI more and more intuitive. As I said I was told by Vladimir Guergiev (Bulgarian lead translator of Opera) in a private chat the following:

I was concerned about Opera and the other OS where there is no IE. That doesn't mean I want you to develop for that browser only (Opera). I mean you can take a look and decide on how to port or build a phone numbers parser that can fit to Opera. In Opera this could be achieved by a wrapper and of course and possibly by some set of UserJS that could help to interact with Opera.
I am sure you will agree that it is not usual to get IE when you have Opera or other as your default browser.

If you want to support Opera - yes. I am just asking you to consider and to take a look to the above mentionned links.
Thanks for your communication,
P.S. By the way here I have succeded to integrate the Bulgarian Aspell in Opera and also I use the MSFT Word speller in Opera using an open source wrapper. If you are interested I can give some more links.
