I am running skype-0.90.0.14-fc2 under fedora core 2.

I installed and payed for a subscription today and found to my disappointment that I couldn't call a land line. After installing it under windows and I successfully made a call I concluded that it was not firewall issue. So back to Linux...

Initially I had, as it was suggested in the FAQ formatted my phone numbers as 00 1 650 123 456, but that always failed with the error message "Failed". However when I removed the spaces it did in fact call out.

Now, I block unidentifiable calls to my home line. The caller is left with the option of pressing 2 and recording his or her name. So I tried pressing 2 on the keypad, but nothing happened except that the 2 was entered into the phone number bar.

Is there a fix for that?

Not yet, because skype does not generate dtmf tones to trigger your recorder. I suppose you might find a way
to play a wav of this tone into skype ?
