I currently have to use a sound splitter to split the sound between my speakers and my earphones and i turn my speakers off during a call. but it also gets anoying as the sound in my speakers is lower cos its getting less sound in from the splitter.
i have 2 other ports on my sound card but i cant figure out howto get skype to use one of the other 2
they are named
analog rear and analog side. they are all on the same sound device though. i dont know if this is possible but i wish it was

I don't think it is much Skype can do about it. If I was you, I would invest in a Logitech Headset (model 250 or 350). You'll get an extra dedicated sound card just for skype, excellent sound quality and don't need a splitter at all.
Just my $0.02

skype really should work on getting sub devices in opens, or someone should write a program that creates a virtual device that skype would then use and direct sound from that virtual device at a sub device.
thats my 2 cents

You should be able to create virtual device that use the second port using ALSA configuration. And then redirect skype output to that virtual device by setting it as a default device, or with use of skype_dsp_hijacker v0.8.
See some more info here:

I have added the section of how to configure "second port" of the sound card:
