Hallo, I'm skype user since 1 year and I'm very happy with it, now I want to migrate to Linux and I' ve got this problem with skype beta 1.3
luca@luca:~/Desktop/skype-1.3.0.30$ ldd skype |grep "not found"
libasound.so.2 => not found
libXxf86vm.so.1 => not found
luca@luca:~/Desktop/skype-1.3.0.30$ locate libasound.so.2
/usr/lib/libasound.so.2.0.0
/usr/lib/libasound.so.2
/usr/lib32/libasound.so.2.0.0
/usr/lib32/libasound.so.2
luca@luca:~/Desktop/skype-1.3.0.30$ locate libXxf86vm.so.1
/usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/libXxf86vm.so.1.0.0
/usr/lib32/libXxf86vm.so.1
/usr/lib32/libXxf86vm.so.1.0.0
The libraries are present on my system.... and also I've done ldconfig

OK. Problem fixed, it was enough to install ia32 libraries on my system.....
Thanks anyway.

When I try to install from the terminal with
./configure
I get the output
No such file or directory
I am within the unpacked tar.bz folder (which is skype-1.2.0.18) but I still get the same output.
I am a noob to linux so I may be doin' somethin wrong here.
I am running Ubuntu 6.06 for PPC on a PowerMac G4 (dual booting with OS X).
Any ideas?
Thanx
Juan

You just need to extract the tar.gz to somewhere in your regular Home directory. For example, I use a folder called programmes. In it I have the extracted folder skype-1.3.0.30.
After that I just created a panel application launcher pointing to /home/programmes/skype-1.3.0.30/skype (not Skype).

Thanx for the info but I still get the same results...
~$./configure/home/meshica7/Extracted/skype-1.2.0.18/scype
bash: ./configure/home/meshica7/Extracted/skype-1.2.0.18/scype: No such file or directory
Does this help?Do I need to use sudo?
Thanx for your help!

You've got at least strange directory structure...
What does the command
CODE
ls -l ./configure/home/meshica7/Extracted/skype-1.2.0.18/
say?

I figured it out.
The problem is that I am running on a Motorola PPC Chip (Power Mac G4) and Scype for Linux is only supported on Intel,Athlon, etc (PC chips)
I appreciate your help!

i had the same prob
i think if you --force all when you use the .deb it should work even on x86_64. i had to install libqt-mt3 or something by hand (pluck the files out of the .deb from debian and shove them in my /usr/lib32)
