Full Version: Recording (skype-rec) and v1.3 Beta

Hello forum,

I'm hoping you guys can help me out with something. I use skype-rec (http://sourceforge.net/projects/skype-rec/) to record my skype conversations, but for some reason with the new Beta of skype it looks like the library doesn't dump the audio files in the correct format. This results in the final file being sped up a little bit (voices are faster and higher pitch).

Does anyone know if a skype-rec patch for the new Beta has been released or if there is a simple work-around? I imagine that it shouldn't be that complicated...?

Thank you,
Seth

Hi,

Thanks for posting that. I am trying to find programme that records skype (was using Sound Recorder on Ubuntu but it only records my voice but not the other person's).

I can't help you at the moment unfortunatelly as I am about to install the recording programme you mention. Of course I would like to see it work as well!

Will tell you if it works for me.

Just keep using OSS as sound system and skype-rec works as before. At least here it does.

When installing skype-rec I get this message:

ERROR: Couldn't locate oggenc binary at 'oggenc'matjaz@PCPlus:~$

Obviously oggenc binaries need location.

How do I do that? Where do I set that?

I’m trying to make skype-rec work but I have some troubles (Ubuntu 6.06, skype 1.3 beta):

I can install skype-rec perfectly. When not changing skype-rec.rc and just putting into terminal ’skype-rec’ I get:
ERROR: Couldn’t locate oggenc binary at ‘oggenc’matjaz@PCPlus:~$

Looks like skype-rec can not find oggenc binaries.

How do I change this?

In README file says: “Skype-rec must be able to find binaries for: ……oggenc (only if Ogg Vorbis encoding is selected)”

How do I change this? Basically I’m a bit confused. Help really appreciated.

Thanks.

I managed to record skype conversation.

In file skype-rec.rc you need to configure settings, then copy it to home directory and rename the file into .skype-rec

I also got speeded up voice, but only at the beginning. Now it seems it settled down a bit. I believe you need to use players that are compatible with the sound format you're recording in.

For ex. if you record in .wav, use Real Play or MMovie Player and for .ogg files Totem or XMMS or similar.

I recorded half an hour conversation last night and the sound speed is perfectly normal.
