You should also check your CPU temperature with speedfan from here http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php speedfan 4.28 and CPU usage with Task Manager in windows.[/quote]

Fresh news:

CPU Temperature: 52º Celcius *
HD Temperature: 42º Celcius *

* Note that it's summer here, and near 23:30 o'clock there are 30º outside (and no Air Conditioner here).

I downloaded Skype 2.0.0.97 from here - http://www.filehippo.com/download_skype/?875 (there are a lot other versions there too) - and the problems disapear. How odd is that?

Same PC, same hour, same system config, different skype version.

There are a lot of problems with 2.5 and most people have to downgrade to 2.0.0.97 so you did the right thing

I too am having the Skype 99% CPU issue. Here are some notes from my investigation, in cronological order:

- The problem started around the time I installed ver 2.5, after upgrading from 1.4.

- Other things I'd done between the time that I know Skype definitely worked and when it definitely didn't are: install IE7 BETA, install a cheap VIMICRO webcam, update windows, update McAfee.

- The high CPU usage started as soon as I start Skype 2.5, before I log in, whether I'm offline or online. The Task Manager shows that it is Skype that is hogging all the CPU. I usually need to kill Skype via the Task Manager to stop it as it is unresponsive.

- The issue is unrelated to CPU temperature. It occurs all the time as soon as Skype opens, the CPU never has a problem when Skype is closed. It occurs even after just booting the machine up after not being on for 2 weeks.

- I uninstalled the VIMICRO webcam driver and software, rebooted etc, but no change.

- I started Windows in Safe Mode with Networking, but the problem still persisted. So it couldn't be a problem with Skype interacting with McAfee or some other such program.

- I went back to a System Restore point of a month ago, and everything was working fine when I opened Skype, clean as a whistle. It was only then that I realised that I was back ver 1.4.

- I upgraded to 2.5 again and the same issue arose again. I have tried the following releases, all with the same problem: 2.5.0.126, 2.0.0.43 (BETA), 2.0.0.90

- When running 1.4.0.84 Skype's CPU usage is very low. A steady 0% when offline and an average of 10% during a test call, with a brief top spike of 31% during the same test call.

- I have read many forum posts about this issue and it seems to be affecting a lot of people, and no one seems to know why. I've read a lot of theories about why it is happening, but none are convincing, and most have been disproved.

- One of the first posts I read the guy had the same spec as my computer, a bottom-of-the-range Dell Inspiron 1200, with a Celeron 1.4Ghz processor. I wonder could it possibly be related to this type of system/processor. Could other people with the same issue please post their system spec?

My only recourse is to go with 1.4, but that renders my purchase of a webcam useless, as I cannot use Skype Video which is a real downer.

The problem is that when i start skype or turn on pc/skype starts/ my computer starts to lags and i can't do nothing , till my pc crashes.
I hardly opened the task manager
Image
as u see - 100% CPU usage  And that happens sometimes and some times it's normal.
Is that some kinda virus or skype problem ?

same problem, no solution until now.

Well guys, ive been having this problem since a couple of months as well, and as i read through all posts, i came to agree that it has to be smth related to the version, unfortunately with no solutions yet...
I just would like to add smth here, sometimes (who knows why) skype works perfectly here until any process (who knows which one) starts and conflicts with it and the system crashes, cpu goes to 100% and i have to quit using task manager. Okay (thats what matters) when THAT happens and i kill ONLY skype process, ive noticed GoogleTalk closes as well, simultaneously.... interesting....is it not????
I don't have enough knowledge to make a technical analysis of the fact, so i thought i might just add it to the topic... it might give a clue to one of those genius out there...
I really hope it does...

same problem 100 CPU after upgrading skype. even
installing earlier revision still give me 100 CPU

Solved it by killing other running programs
until skype started normal, then I search for the culprit.

Using Process Explorer
I killed almost everything, comodo, avg, etc etc.
Skype started normal. Restart PC.
Kill one running program at a time, try skype, if 100 CPU, kill it,
repeat this process until you find the offender program.

In my case it was a program called "Filebox eXtender"
After I configured "Filebox eXtender" to ignore Skype.
