Hi
First of all, thanks a lot for releasing the new beta !!
It already looks a lot better but I still cant get phoning to work
Now I can hear the other talk, but he cant hear me. The test call also doesn't work (i cant hear myself)
arecord -D plughw:0,0 RecTest.wav
works like a charm so I dont know where to search for other reasons?
My Mixer settings are:
Mic and Capture enabled and pretty high, ADC, DAC on max and enabled too
Mic select is Mic1, Mono Output Select is Mix
My chipset is a CS46xx and when starting skype from console I dont see any messages at all...?
Thanks for helping
Matt

Also a problem with the mic here:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:801:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) The dmix plugin supports only playback stream
I'm using this asound file:

I had the same problem immediately after upgrade. However, I did one reboot since then, and it seems to work now (using ALSA). It is of course quite unfamiliar to Linux users that intallation of software requires a reboot, but maybe this is part of the functionality of the Windows version that was now ported to Linux ;-)
Sound quality is still somewhat weak with some cracking and jumping here and there, but the core functionality seems to be there.

With a quite recent kernel, you don't need to configure a .asoundrc file anymore, since alsa dmixes per default.
Try removing .asoundrc file and restart skype.

Hi All,
I've tried something new and it seems to help:
1 First, add the microphone boost up to your volume panel. Go to volume settings, click on edit/settings and add the "Mic Boost (+20dB)"
2. Try to call 123 audio testing system and change your settings as many as you need to set up your sound better. That's what my volume settings panel looks like:

I hope this could help you.

yes it works now after removing and restarting alsa and skype.
The .asoundrc was necessary to make working the old version of skype, but now it seems to be good

Strange if I remove .asoundrc file, KDE notification system no longer makes any sound. But Skype does work at the same time Amarok is playing back through ALSA with xine engine.

In my case neither using the mic boost, nor removing my .asoundrc files (and restarting alsa and skype) helps. I can listen to everything, but the test doesn't records/receives my voice. Any other ideas/discoveries?

it was the same here, I only have to go in the KDE configuration panel, and reboot the sound system. and after all is ok

Hey thanks, that worked!
But I'm more looking forward to KDE4 and let arts rest in peace

Hi All
next suggestion which works for me. I could test my mic successful, my mic sound quality was very bad though. Now next straight tip to improve sound quality:
1. Go to volume control and add a new tab called "options" to your volume control (I have a german version of fedora core 4, but I think you can find it anyway :roll: )
Click first Edit/Settings, then click on the checkbox "Mic select", so that a new tab called "Options" appears. This let you change the microphone which is used for Skype (I use just a normal headset, not usb). I changed my mic from Mic1 to Mic2 and now the sound quality of my microphone is much better, but not as good as under windows. Therefore again, change your microphone to check and adjust the best sound quality. Also call the sound testing service and check your settings.
2. You shouldn't change the capture level because this is manipulated directly by Skape. Skype increases the capture level automatically to 100 %
So long!

Hello,
I don't manage to use the new beta version of Skype.I have a nvidia force 3 sound card in my laptop, and a webcam wiith a mic. I would like to use this mic (don't have another mic). But when I select camera in sound device, skype does not want to run ("problem with sound device"), and when I select nvidia force 3, I can hear, but can't speak. Has anyone got an idea to resolve this problem?
Thank you very much

First of all, hi to everybody, as I'm new here.
I just wanted to notice that I'm having the same problem like seldor and none of the given hints worked for me.
My configuration:
* Debian etch (testing),
* skype 1.3-beta (installed the deb),
* cs46xx-based soundcard.
arecord is working correctly but skype, well, isn't.

I found this solution in Internet.
Configure you /et/asound.conf as follows
Generated by system-config-soundcard, do not edit by hand
defaults.pcm.card 0
defaults.pcm.card 0
#beginnig of asound.conf
pcm.asymed {
type asym
playback.pcm "dmix"
capture.pcm "dsnoop"
}
pcm.!dmix {
type dmix
ipc_key 5678293
ipc_key_add_uid yes
slave {
pcm "hw:0,0"
period_time 0
period_size 128
buffer_size 2048
format S16_LE
rate 48000
}
}
and restart skype with
>>artsdsp skype
Moreover, if problems continue, try to set "real-time priority" in the Sound Configurations Menu of the Control Center application of KDE
Try also to augment the buffer size.
Fedora 4
kernel 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4
