Chat capability would make Skype the number one communication software! Chat is a missing feature, I think, many people would change from ICQ to Skype if that was implemented.
It should be a very simple feature (like Skype in general) - while instant messaging, there should be an action "Invite a contact to messaging". When the contact joins, the 1-1 messaging turns into chat. And it's extremely easy to implement.
