Skye and kde 3.5.2 don't seems to work well together. For some reason. This is what i get from the logs.

Starting skype without sound daemon
/opt/skype/skype.bin --resources-path /opt/skype/

arts has been removed from kde 3.5.2 I think. There is nothing wrong with my sound. Alsa works without a problem, far as I can tell.

There must be some way to fix this problem. I am using Gentoo Linux, Kde 3.5.2.

Thanks in advance.

err, what EXACTLY was your question?
nobody needs arts, nobody ever did.
skype doesn't rely on arts anyway. get your ALSA OSS (/dev/dsp) emu started and working, and look for some script executed as `skype` (do a `which skype`), which is calling the real executable in some obsolete way- like arts etc. fix this.

i.e.:
look into your file, which is started when you type (or click) `skype`, guess you'll find something like

#!sh
bla
bla
artsdsp x-yhf /the/real/skype.exe (sorry smile.png )

now try
1) to start /the/real/skype.exe
2) to change the artsdsp in a.m. file to sth more usefull. see other threads bout sound here therefore
