Hi, I've been reading all of this posts since I installed SuSE Linux 10.1 in my HP laptop, everything worked fine, but Skype. I installed the rpm package for SUSE but even though the program seemed to work, the sound was choppy and very intermitent. I followed all the instructions I found in this posts (The turn off sound card trick, working with OSS, emulate OSS from ALSA, use the EDM daemon from GNOME) but still my skype wasn't working... then i found this KLIK website about auto-installable packages called Klik (first time i've heard abour them btw) and I ran Skype just to try, and is working perfectly now!. Here is the link: http://skype.klik.atekon.de/
You can read the comments about it in their website and the installation instructions.
Good Luck!
