Hi guys,
If you're in Toronto, why not use vbuzzer? It's offer US$2/mon for phone number, unlimited local call. Cheaper long distance compare with skype (outside US/Canada). Most important, it's standard SIP based which means you can purchase phone adaptor and use it like normal phone, without turn on your computer!

Vbuzzer is plagued with major problems
from billing to not being able to make or receive
calls and sound quality is pretty poor compared to Skype
at most times.
Tech support is virtually non-existent
and the support forum is just full of morons
like Torontophone trying to score affiliate points.
If you want to check out Vbuzzer anyways
don't click the link Torontophone posted
go directly to the homepage.
http://www.vbuzzer.com/
Vbuzzer even promotes spamming on Blogs, message boards
and newsgroups. Companies like that never last very long
and are more interested in taking in as much money as possible
and providing piss poor service until they finally kick the bucket.

Don't know who you are but you suddenly register a new account and post bad words on vbuzzer. I introduce vbuzzer because vbuzzer do offer Canadian numbers and the quality is acceptable. I post my link here so I can earn some credits at the time I provide the info. You think that's scam?
Vbuzzer using standard protocol which means you can use any sip client/device to connect the service. For example, use linksys pap2 and get vonage like services.
Skype using private protocol which can get better performance at bad network connection, but might already decrypted by hackers so they can access your computer, even you're sitting behind firewall!
Again, for more information, click link below, just give me some credits:)

Do Skype personnel even patrol this board for ideas and suggestions? It seems like there's plenty of demand for SkypeIn Canadian numbers. I, for one, am anxiously waiting for a 604 number but have been waiting for quite a while now. Hopefully Skype can get the ball rolling faster on this if companies like Vbuzzer and eFax can get Canadian numbers.

Why start this treath? Please search in the forum and the web and they tell why skype is not in canada.
The CTRC have a policy for the 911 and all ephone / voip etc And skype don't want to offert the 911. If they offert the 911 for the canada they will need to offert the 911 for all other country.
So yes i want the skypein in canada but no it will not be tomorow...

Great first post by telling people when they can or cannot start a thread.
How is this related? CRTC requires voip companies that offers to replace your residential phone line to have 911 service. That is, you use your land line as you normally would but your phone signals are serviced using voip medium. SkypeIn is in no way a replacement for your residential phone line. It just directs call to your Skype account. In fact, from what you are saying, it sounds like it should be SkypeOut that should offer 911/e911 service. If I was in an emergency situation and I insist on using Skype to make my emergency call, I would be using SkypeOut.
Besides, you take a look at companies like VBuzzer. It offers Canadian virtual numbers but they don't offer 911 or e911 service. Subscribers have to sign a Term of Service agreement to waive the company of any responsibilities. Check it out.
http://www.vbuzzer.com/calling_plans.php
In fact, SkypeIn is more similar to eFax where a virtual number directs a call to a voicemail or fax service and eFax is not required to have 911.
People want SkypeIn as a convenient way to receive long distance calls as if it is a local call and I don't see how it is related to 911 at all. I don't see why VBuzzer and eFax can do it and Skype can't. Skype personnel, hello? Hello? If you are listening then please offer some insights into this.

Sorry sweetycakes but I've never posted on the Vbuzzer site under
this name or any other.
Vbuzzer and it's users are a bunch of SPAMMERS.
A simple check of the Vbuzzer site will confirm this
as Vbuzzer admins encourage posting their spew
on message boards, newsgroups, unsolicitated email
and blogs.
It should also be noted that Vbuzzer's offices are located
in an area that is a hotbed of telemarketing, identity thieves,
scammers and other assorted fly-by-night operators.

Your post even looks like it's formatted for easy copy/paste. You realize that, right?
"Vbuzzer's offices are located in an area that is a hotbed of telemarketing, identity thieves, scammers and other assorted fly-by-night operators."
Wow, really reaching there huh. "And they live on the same block as mean kids, who steal gum and are jerks!" Even if it's true, it doesn't mean they're also a bunch of thieves.
Funny that you'd know that area, funnier still that you would connect it with these vbuzzer guys. Hell, I wasn't even that interested and was hoping we'd get something from skype in this thread (other than vague 'CRTC' conspiracies, which as we've seen are pretty much bogus) but after seeing your posts I'm definitely going to check it out.
Thanks!

Here is another voip company that offers vancouver local numbers *without* offering 911 service, although there is plan in the works to offer that. Still, the fact it can operate this business without needing to start with an integrated 911 service pretty much dispels the idea that it's the CRTC that's the holdup for a SkypeIn number. Anyways, here's the link:
http://www.peopleline.net/pstelco/faq.htm#serviceqa
Scroll down to the 911 service.
So far, I have not heard of anything concrete from Skype personnel other than it's CRTC political influence. What exactly is CRTC saying? Is it even CRTC that's the problem here?

I wouldn't hold my breath. Trying to get Skype personnel to offer their insights is like trying to get a response from a brick wall. It doesn't seem like they are interested despite repeated requests for this service in Canada. Skype's excuse is it's CRTC that's causing the delay due to e911 service but I pretty much dispel that with examples of companies offering virtual numbers without 911 service.

Skype seems to me to be the best service out there for VOIP, definately the way to go, after all soon the internet will handle all communications, so what the hell, might as well get on board now. vote 905 (Hamilton) and 519 (Waterloo)

Last night I got a call on my cellphone from a friend, who was actually calling my Skypename. I have my Skype calls redirected to my cellphone, to be more specific.
Well, the news here is that when he was calling me, my cellphone Caller ID was showing a local (Montreal) phone number, like 514-940-xxxx, and not 000123456....
I looked on CNA's website and the CO Code Status table indicates Allstream as owning company.
So...my question is... : Does this mean something? Is Skype cooking something for us, here in Canada?

Fri Sep 15 2006, 21:14
I would love a 416, 647 or 905 skypein number but I think Canada is low on the priority list. I also don't think there network here is ready for primetime yet.
I don't buy e911 as an issue because that is a skyeout function not a skypein function and we have skypeout here. Of course the other problems could be the incumbant PSTN companies stalling things.
I dropped my land line about four months ago and use the cell and skypeout. I bought the d-link usb to analog phone adaptor and it works OK. I get plenty of dropped calls so this is why I don't think the network is ready yet. The call quality was quite good when I started then it dropped and now it seems to be improving again. I have sent plenty of email requests to skype about GTA area skypein but either they're not ready, or they don't care or something is blocking progress.
P.S. With the usb/analog adaptor I've plugged in a standard cordless phone and can walk around the house making calls to regular phone lines. The best thing about dropping the landline is no more telemarketers. Right now I'm invisible.

hi everybody,
I'm from france, and I'm living now in Vancouver for the next 3 years. My roomates have cell phones and no landline in the house..and maybe next year I will move out of this house...so opening a new landline with Bell or suscribe to a cell phone wouldn't worth it and SkypeIn is the best solution for me to be contacted here or from France. So please for people in my case or the other 10000 people waiting for SkypeIn, do it!!!! Bring SkypeIn to Canada!!!!!!!
area code here is 604 or 778...come on!!!! ^^
