Any ideas of how to implement a skype based PABX system . Basically the system would need to
-Patch call to next available overator
-operator patches call to correct department (within skype network)
-Handles multiple incoming calls
-Keep the call in the skype enviroment - ie not patching into a traditional pabx system.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hey mlynsky!
Not really available at this time. There is no Call Transfer function in Skype.
So the only way now is with a PBX. The simple low cost way is:

different approaches are discussed here:

I think soon you will get what you want.
tell us more about your application. Calls per hour. Number of employees on Skype, type of business...

Thanks Bill, i really appreicate your prompt and thorough response.
The atricles are very interesting and help us only with the first part of the problem, getting the calls into the receptionist.
The problem is that the final call recipient is also a skype user and needs the call then forwarded through to a skype account. This, as far i understand would require a skype in number in order to patch the call though. This basically defats the purpose of the excercise!
I have though about solutions involving mulitple instances of skype running on the same machine with virtual machines. and confrencing them up in order achieve a 'virtual pbx' but this seems quite a complicated solution!
Also, what makes you think that this solution is coming soon?

Hey mlynsky!
That is not a problem. A PBX with a Skype2PBX Gateway like VoSky or Zipcom can call a Skype Client too.
Soon? Read the Skype Journal post about the upcoming Dev Con for Skype-eBay conference in Las Vegas very closely.

Actually, it might be possible using this:
https://developer.skype.com/Docs/ApiDoc/SET...JOIN_CONFERENCE
With the right API code of course ;-)
1. Front desk answers Call.
2. Call is placed on Hold.
https://developer.skype.com/Docs/ApiDoc/SET...SET_CALL_ONHOLD
3. Front desk CALLS person who call is for, places them on hold
4. BOTH use ALTER CALL to place them in a conference room.
5. Front desk waits for more calls.

Hey ZOverLord!
Yes, that will work, but you need a Skype Client for each Call. That is very expensive.

Looks like that is the case in his requested setup, "Skype Based PBX", operators use Skype, departments use Skype. All internal PABX traffic would be Skye based, if I read it right?

Hey ZOverLord!
you are fast!
Readying it correctly is difficult. All we can do is guess.
But until Call Transfer comes he can't really do anything unless he uses a PBX. Which he won't do.

Bill

Hi,,
I really apreciate you all taking the time to get involved in this thread
ZOverlord - i appreciate what you say....it may work.....
It may require using virtual machines to run lots of skype clients for each operator.
And to clarify the scenario. The aim is to create a completely Skype based PABX. Although the caller could be calling into a skype in number and the depatment/recipient may be called using a skype out number.
Essentially the opertor / receptionist part should be totally skype based

Well I would like to test a theory but I am waiting for a bug fix on conference calls ("In the Beta Release") to be fixed, however according to the documentation my method should work, once the bug is fixed in the Beta, Will test and let you know

Maybe I am confused, but here is what I tried.
I call two people from Skypeout, both numbers, and then try and do a JOIN_CONFERENCE with the 3 digit call numbers, Skype hangs.
I place the first call on Hold, and then call the second number, and attempt to connect the first caller who is on hold in conference with the second caller.

OK thanks for sharing.
As far as I'm concerned about this issue precisely, bug is fixed in the current 2.5.0.91 public beta release.
Let us now if you still have a bug.

Call forwarding has been available for quite a long time since Sept. 2005, I guess. Please read the Skype API document more carefully.
The idea behind ZiPCOM's SkyPBX (www.zipcom.com.tw) and other similar product is to integrate Skype INTO traditional PBX system. Now you have the goodies from both worlds: free Skype and feature-rich PBX.
Users utilize their existing desktop PBX phones to make and to receive Skype calls. And, best of all, all missing features in Skype are now available via PBX, including:
- auto attendant;
- call transfer;
- call monitoring;
- call recording;
- call conferencing (as many parties as you want);
- call hold/waiting/park
- hand-free speaker phone
- ...
ZiPCOM's SkyPBX adds much more features such as:
- unlimited extended digits for phone book to address world-wide Skypers directly from PBX phones;
- hunt group with a single unique corporate Skype account for incoming calls;
- CDR (call detailed records) for Skype calls;
- Events, traffic statistics, and status monitoring;
- ...
Watch out for more products offerings along this Skype PBX product series in the upcoming exhibition Computex Taipei, 2006, 6/6-6/10.
Cheers.
