Download/Installation problems
Please reboot and purge the following folders
C:Temp or
C:Tmp if available
C:WindowsTemp
C:WindowsPrefetch
Your Download Folder (desktop?)
at least delete manually downloaded Skype-setup-file
Recycle bin
reboot
download latest Skype setup file again
but now download to a different location than last time. Do not use default location
Install Skype to a different location than last time with a different name
Do NOT use default name, use "Skype2" for example

I deleted all C:temp, C:windowstemp and C:windowsprefetch files. Rebooted, downloaded setup files to a new location. The setup does not run far enough to choose installation location. As soon as I click RUN the second time. I get "Setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy ... ". Any more suggestions?

Double Clicked the SkypeSetup.exe. Alert box says, "Publisher could not be verified. Are you sure..." Clicked RUN. Instantly the alert box with "The setup files are corrupted....." pops up.
Now what??

Please download as advised.
Do a fresh download
Do not save to old destination!
Install with different name!

You are repeating yourself. So, I will too. I have done all that. Does anyone have any other suggestions.

More information (meaning more than zero) on your setup would be appreciated.
Dell/McAfee combo or Norton security software might be cause of problem.
Just guessing at this point.

I was having the same problem, and after disabling VirusScan it worked, thanks!

Problem resolved. I downloaded Skype to another computer and tested the install. I copied the setup to a key drive and then onto the problem computer. It ran and installed fine. I still do not know the cause. But I do know the cure.
Thanks to all that tried to help.

This happens because you did not follow my advice point by point.
You did NOT delete old setup file and/or downloaded to the same location,
and started installation with/from old file.
Download managers never overwrite files with the same name.
They are not able to check for volume and/or content.
