That's true, indeed.
But to show them, that you don't care about the damned skype, please install Twinklephone or Ekiga and use a SIP provider instead.

Let those bastards feel, that they are losing users. As someone mentioned earlier, it's usually Linux users who make software decisions for their friends, family and company. I recommend SIP and Twinkle to everyone, as it "Just works"

I agree Twinkle and sipphone/gizmoproject.com rock! They are everything that Skype could have been.

Twinkle and Ekiga both have problems with NAT traversal for symmetric NAT routers. Twinkle is Linux-only and doesn't have video, and Ekiga doesn't have encryption (although no one knows how good Skype's proprietary encryption is, and they probably have a backdoor anyway). If these issues got fixed, Skype would indeed be in trouble. Don't get me wrong, I use Twinkle myself, but these alternatives aren't ready for the masses yet.
