New version was launched on July 23.

Some of the new features are:
[list]* advanced search, including "Invite someone to use skype" from empty search results
* rename friends from context menu (you can change names of contacts locally for better overview)
* new login and "create user" interface including username suggestions[list]And of course lots of bugs were fixed.

Download Skype for Linux here and see release notes here.

Another important change in this ver is that the startup crashes should be gone. So if any of you had it crashing previously, please DL 0.90.0.14 and see if it works better. If not, we'll do some more debugging with you.

Hello,

Just downloaded the latest Skype for Fedora Core 2 and would like to point out some packaging bugs I noticed:

1. Group should be 'Applications/Internet' not 'Internet'
2. Desktop entry using a deprecated configuration option; 'Terminal=0' should be 'Terminal=false'
3. EULA should be packaged as a %doc file so it gets installed into /usr/share/doc/skype-VER/EULA ?
4. No Vendor, Distribution, Packager tag
5. No changelog
6. Non-descriptive summary; very brief description

Really looking forward to using Skype; guess I better find myself a nice microphone to try it out with. Mental note: not to buy a laptop without a built-in microphone next time smile.png

It appears to be showing me that I have twice as many contacts online as I actually have online; for example, right now, two of my buddies are connected but it's telling me on the first tab that I have 4 contacts online.

On my SuSE 9.0 box with KDE 3.2.3 it does not crash on start-up but freezes after an undertermined time when being reduced to notification icon...
When main window is only minimized it does not freeze.

Hi skype folks,

first, congratulations to this great software, especially the Skype-out feature. smile.png Saves me a lot of money for international phone calls smile.png

Here are some wishes you are probably already aware of:

- optional server-based contacts (currently I have to add all my contacts manually to every machine I use skype on. and I have to keep the list in sync manually... sadsmile.png )
- when I got authorization from a contact, it should appy for every machine I run skype on. Currently I have to send requests for authorization from every machine to every contact.
- when a contact is not online, he/she doesn't get my authorization requests, though the contact stays grey with a question mark and I never know when they are online to send them the request again (by removing the contact from the list and adding him/her again)
- Authorization requests sent by my contacts (windows client) to me, don't reach me, even when I'm online.
- Taskbar notification when a call comes in

These are the points bothering me the most. I hope you'll put them on top of your to-do list. smile.png

Cheers

this problem appears to have vanished without me having changed anything (other than possibly rebooting between when I reported it and when I noticed it'd stopped happening)
