I am using Suse 9.0 and i keep it updated.

i installed skype-0.90.0.6-suse.i386.rpm and that went fine. Then i made a link to the program on my desktop and started it. It works for 2 min or so and then it crashes ( every time ). i tried to start it was root, but same problem sadsmile.png

then i tried to start skype from a konsole, but then i get a :
skype: cannot connect to X server
lipssealed.png

so i cant see any log on why my program crashes..

Anyone got a clue why my skype doesn't work ?

it is known that the current version of skype isn't so stable, but if you wait some time untill the next version releases, it will have a bunch of crashfixes, i can tell you smile.png

so, the only advise i can give you is to just wait untill the next version...

If it can't connect to X server when you launch from console its
because the console session is not the owner of the X session.
You probably tried to run it as root in a terminal session started as a user.

Running skype as root is neither necessary or asvisable, and you are on the wrong track.

Install as root, run as user.
If it runs from a user konsole then you should be able to create an icon or task bar icon to run it.

But running as root is the wrong way to go. I use SuSE and I assure you this is not necessary.

i had _one_ crash under Debian/Unstable, SE/Linux 2.6.6, KDE 3.2.3.

it was with my usb handset which went Pingg (literally: there's a relay in the cradle that detects the magnet of the earpiece) as the entire ALSA usb audio stack crashed.

skype on linux goes very weird if the sound isn't operating correctly (e.g. your usb audio device has headset but no mic).

Hi!
I have the same crashing problems on Suse 9.0 with the latest release. Funnily enough Skype was working fine for a couple of days after the update, but now it's back to crashing after a couple of minutes after launching it.

All who get crashes: please do a gdb backtrace as instructed by Indrek here: http://forum.skype.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=...t=4328&start=15 and send the result to me as Private Message. Thanks.
