No I can't. I don't have any authoritative info on that at this time. I'm sure there's a cool story behind it though, so we might post it on the web or somewhere. But for now, it remains a mystery. So, you can speculate

I can't remember where but I remember watching on tv that the word skype means a virus or disease. For example: "You've got the skype".

Maybe they just wanted something to rhyme with "type" so they could say "Don't type, Skype."

Well, you should ask where the name SKYPER comes from.

I remember I read some article or interview of one of the founders months and months ago that although the company was called skyper they decided to give the product (and website) the name SKYPE because www.skyper.com was already taken!

I hope i remembered well!

Very short answer:
Originally the concept was "Sky-Peer-to-Peer"
This morphed into Skyper
and this morphed into Skype!
