After a full restart, I believe (though I rarely restart) that I can successfully login the first time to Skype. If I close Skype and try to re-connect, it reports "Logging in failed". I could not find this in the forums. Can anyone document whether or not they also have this problem? I am not interested in leaving it running 24/7. Even if I were, if I accidentally disconnect from Skype I can't get back in without a restart. That is illogical. I have no problem with any other messaging program in the market.

you didn't quit skype, but only closed the window? (sorry, but sounds like that)

check that your firewall isn't on. It usually blocks Skype.

Yeah, joerg is probably right. Skype abuse close button of the main Skype Window, so instead of closing the application it close the active window.
But the application remain active. Sometimes you can bring it from the task bar, but icon on the task bar can be disabled too, so there is no way to bring Skype back.

To close Skype pemanently just use 'Exit' from the menu.

If you happen to 'close' Skype window, and cannot login, open the console and write:
CODE
killall skype

Should help.
