Hi everone,

Just got SkypeOut and think it's a great service and probably the future of telephony, but 'free' calls with SkypeIn isn't exactly true, is it? If you have to pay an annual subscription for a SkypeIn number, then that's not free. Granted, if EVERONE you knew had Skype then the subscription fee would be insignificant (it's a very reasonable fee), but it's still not free, is it?

So what exactly do they mean when they say 'The World Can Talk For Free'?

Regards,
p7

Skype is free, as long as you don't use it.

Seriously though, anyone who has skype should be able to talk to anyone else who has skype. So you see, Skype to Skype is always free.

Yes, but you still need to buy a SkypeIn number to go Skype to Skype.

NO YOU DO NOT Skype to Skype is going from pc2pc only there are no external phone lines/numberes involved only the phone line that you use to connect your PC the the internet.

It is the same as when you use MSN messanger or Yahoo or any other messanger type program that has voice as well.

Ahhhhh..... well, that's a newbie put in his place! Good to know... although it wasn't obvious to me. So I presume you don't need a SkypeIn number for this? Do you just add someone via an email address/search?
rocketman
You just search for contacts via the Skype search facility or add the Skype names of any friends you have to your contacts list.

Have a look here and you can learn all about it http://www.skype.com/help/guides/
