First of all I am not only a linux newbie but am clueless sometimes.
with that out of the way...

Here is the problem I am having:
Install went very smooth.
Able to add users to my contacts list no problem.
Can send text message with out any problem.
Try to place a call fails
goes straight to failed as if it does not try
to connect to other user.

Basicly,
I select a user click the green phone
I see it goes to routing
Then it goes right to failed.

I am looking for sugestions as I can not
find a log file or for that matter the $HOME/.Skype/thorkyl stuff
I am also unable to save the options.
such as log instant messages

Did my install fail with no error message?
Am I missing a package?

Try to call "echo123", our special test user - does that also fail?
thorkyl_
I am unable connect to echo123.

I get the same response from the app as I get with other users.

Where is the log file located so I can attatch it?

As you can send instant messages and other I doubt the problem is with your firewall. Linux Skype does not yet have proper error messages, so I can only conclude your sound card is to blame.

Getting the sound card working is a more general Linux problem. At first I'd recommend trying to get playback&recording working. With SuSE's KDE comes an utility named krecord. Run it and try to record something, and play it back. For instant feedback turn on krecord's Options->Freq specturm and Options->Input level. Also your sound card has to support full duplex (meaning it can play and record at the same time).

For more information please check the Linux sound faq on this forum: http://forum.skype.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4489

hi

I had a similar problem of connection errors, resulting in instant hangup.

I started skype from a xterm, and the output said SOUND_PLAYBACK_ERROR, and the line before said that /dev/dsp was busy.

My solution was disable the arts-soound deamon.

In the control center -> sound -> sound server, I deactivated the 'activate arts sound server on KDE startup'.

My system is
linux 2.4.18 running a well updated debian testing with KDE 2.2.2

Hope it helps

PS.
Skype is cool. I hope it will be around for a very long time.

This all means that your sound device is not working so that Skype can interface with it correctly. Check out the Skype for Linux sound FAQ.
