When I dial, I can hear the other side of the conversation, but they can't hear me, except in little bursts and fragments, and then only occasionally.

Admitedly, this is on a iPAQ 2215, but the same processor as the 4150; I added a Sandisk WiFi SDIO adapter, so I have great WiFi connectivity. I would think this would work, as this effectively turns my 2215 into a 4150/4155.

Any advice or help? I get the same experience through my home Wifi network to cable modem as I do via EDGE.

Thanks...Tom

Hi tomsull,

Problem is that you are using external wifi card, that consumes a lot of CPU and leaves not enough CPU power for Skype.

I'm havintthe same problem with my toshiba e750 with an internal wireless card.

I tested it while I was in australia to an australian landline and the call quality was fine.
I'm now in japan calling australian mobiles and the person i call says they can only hear bits and peices of what I'm saying. I've even tried the 312mhz version and the result is the same.

Any advice?

drzimmerman,
could you try with different access point in Japan to verify that the problem is not in the network hardware.

Hi...note that in many of the latest versions of PPC, the WiFi function is performed via an internal SDIO WiFi adapter built into the unit. This is tru of the HTC Wizard for example (soon to arrive, I ordered one this week).

The CPU is 400 Mhz, is there a test I can run to see if the CPU is over constrained? Again, I'm dubious that it's the SDIO card.

I also get the same behavior via Cell model to Cingular's EDGE network (which is where I hope to primarily use Skype).

Thanks...Tom

The access point is linked to a friends Fiber connection

I just ran a speed test at dslreports and the results I got were 697 kbit/sec with 0.613seconds latency

I've used Skype successfully now for several versions with a 2210.

See this (short) thread for details: http://forum.skype.com/viewtopic.php?t=47377

I've never got a SanDisk SD WiFi card to work properly with an iPaq.
