Hello,

I have a problem with installing Skype on my Qtek 8300 with Windows Mobile 5.

It's start with

"Installing Skype from Skype Technologies"

and then

"Installation of Skype Technologies S.A. Skype.CAB was unsuccessful. The installation file is not intended for this device"

I have tried downloading both of the available versions SkypeForPocketPC_beta.exe and SkypeForPocketPC_low_cpu_beta.exe from http://www.skype.com/products/skype/pocketpc/ without any success. I receive the same message on the device when I try to install.

System Info:

os: 5.1.70 (build 14406.1.1.1)
cpu: TI OMAP850, 195 MHz
ram: 64 Mb
rom version: 1.0.7.0

Thanks,

Mike

Well, the error message is not lying to you; Skype does not yet support Smartphone.

However, there is an unofficial alpha version without voice support available at http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-smartphone . Also, you could extract the CAB file from the exe and install it, but then you need to emulate screen taps with an emulator. Don't know where to get one, anyone care to fill in?

big thanks!

p.s.
where did you found about this Alpha version? Is there any public page for Alpha releases?

The alpha version was posted on this forum in this thread: http://forum.skype.com/viewtopic.php?t=25340

There is no other page available as I know of, since it's an unofficial release.

I am currently running a study in our company about reducint costs and using Smarphones with such services as SKYPE.

We just purchased 2 or 3 different Smartphone devices to test out the usability and performance of using Voice over the Internet (GPRS / EDGE / WifFi).

When can we expect a working version of Skype for these devices ?
