I'm a new skype user and so far unable to get it to work. Mac G4 powerbook, 10.4.11

Every time I try to place a call I get this message: "Number doesn't exist." This is for correct, active phone numbers. crying.png

Any advice? Have I missed something in my set up?

Thanks,
Jan

Jan, I have the same problem. I believe the number needs a "1" like (216) 555-7777 should show in your address book as 1216555777, not as 2165557777.

I've had a whole raft of misbehavior with number entries appearing in my Skype contacts, "you need Skype credit" error message (even though I have the $2.95/mo. call package), "number doesn't exist". Frankly, I think the software needs MUCH work and I haven't seen official responses to issues like the one you are raising. Ouch.

Hi Jan,
I am also a fairly new user but everything has worked perfectly on my MAC. I guess I'm just lucky.

Ray said use the 1 before the # if calling in the US. I forgot the 1 and called a 631 area code # and got the operator in the Philippines because their country code is 63.

The only other thing I can think of is did you pay to get a SKYPE #?

Without your own number I believe you can only call someone else's computer from your computer.

The correct format for dialing landlines or cell phones with Skype is as follows: +Countrycode/areacode/telephonenumber. Example: to dial 415 555-1212 in the US, enter the number thusly: +14155551212

This should fix things.
