Hi guys,

Just finished installing Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on my machine, installed skype 2.0 and... the mic volume is very, very low. Totally useless.

What I tried so far:
- purged pulseaudio
- set all levels on max in the gnome UI
- maxed out all levels in alsamixer
- set skype voice settings on intel hd:0 something (instead of default)
- unchecked "Let Skype set the volume" option

Right now I'm running out of options and ideas. Previously I had kubuntu 9.10 and the volume was fine.

I've posted also this question on the ubuntu forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8169266

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Add/enable ~"Mic +20db" to controls via ALSA mixer options, and select it?

All levels are at max (mic and amplifier).

Anyway, problem solved by installing version 2.1 with pulseaudio. Everything is working fine now. smile.png

I jave the same issue... However I've already installed Skype 2.1 Beta. Anyone have a solution.

OS Kubuntu 9.10
Acer TM 6292

Thanks in advance!

Probably you tried it, but just to make sure: open a console, type alsamixer and check all levels in there. Try setting all levels at max and see if this changes anything.

I found that adjusting the ALSAMIXER settings has helped me. However it is far from perfect. Also it seems as though the sound deteriorates minutes into the call. Before adjusting the mic in on alsa it was at zero and I had no mic volume. If I put Also Mic to 100% I get terrible static that is incomprehensible.

Hope this helps to track down the issue. I have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 but had the same issue on 9.04. The 2.0 version of skype worked perfectly in 9.04

Try to uncheck the [x] Allow Skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels checkbox on sound options page. See how that goes.
