Either get better developers or don't xxxxxx bother. Your program is absolutely abysmal, both in performance and in stability. Attempting to call anyone else with video causes the recipient's computer to COMPLETELY FREEZE, REQUIRING A FULL REBOOT. KDE support is also nonexistent. Seriously, why would you write something in Qt and require a Gnome component (PulseAudio) to get sound to work? Not that any of you xxxxxx developers actually read these forums, or even know what a desktop environment is for that matter. Get a xxxxxxx clue, or xxxx off. Don't quit your day jobs.

hehe, it's obvious that a majority of softwares lag in Linux version. so why not give it some tolerance? so far as i know Skype for Linux is written in QT and it has made sound work with pulseaudio. sometimes is has something to do with your distribution. version 2.3 beta is working perfectly in my Ubuntu 9.10 Beta both in Gnome and KDE. you can give it a try.

First i gotta say your post is not helpful from any point of view that can exist in the whole internet.
Anyway, am using Ubuntu 9.04 and it works perfectly, video and calls. Also tested ubuntu 9.10 and Kubuntu 9.10, Fedora 11 and OpenSuse 11.2 RC. Got NO problem whatsoever, it ran smoothly, i could talk with 10 people with no problem, had video chat with 2 friends and got NO ERROR WHATSOEVER.
So next time make a helpful comment first and not a destructive (instead of constructive) criticism.
this was all tested with the Beta version 2.1 of Skype.
While i write this am still talking with a friend over skype.

I think a lot of folks come to Linux because it's free...and it's cool...but then they can't really handle the responsibility that comes with freedom. They expect spoon-feeding and don't get it. They prefer not to do any research before they try something, nor to do any analysis after they experience a problem, nor to learn anything about what a Linux distribution is, and how the Linux communities operate,... I see so many of these types posting this kind of garbage in the support forums of the more popular distributions...and here in the Skype forums. It's pathetic.
I'm glad to see the progress made by the Skype team in supporting Pulse Audio. I have the recent Skype Beta 2.1.0.47 running on an up to date Fedora 10 on an IBM X41 Tablet. I have great audio and video support...and the latter only after I applied a work around for the old Logitech Quickcam Deluxe that I have.
So...Skype for Linux is NOT shit. The same can't be said for so many wannabe Linux users with a bad attitude.

Dude, that may be the case - I'm suffering with Skype and Kubuntu at the moment but your post isn't really any help other than a rant (5/10 for that too - you got your spelling right and not all caps... ;o).
Have you tried terminal then sudo skype - I was having (and continue to have) no luck getting the mic to work from the app menu, but sudo'ing it brought it back into life - and all seems OK. Worth a try.
I think that the skype developers have perhaps been a bit over zealous in using pulseaudio before it's 'time'.
