I just want to thank Skype for making it possible to open up a world that would be difficult to find......I met my fiancee on Skype in April 2005...he lives in Morocco, me in the United States. I admit, from the moment I heard his voice, I knew he would be the one I would spend my life with. In Feb 2006 we met face to face....it was more wonderful then I dreamed. Thank you skype for making this separation a little less painful and difficult but mostly thank you for making it possible for me to find true love. Both of us are so grateful to you.

But first I want to comment about how some men are courteous while using Skype. I think that the problem is in the lack of consciousness of some people and this new technology which allows for anonymous contacts that gives so much courage to cowards. I bet that these cowards if they where facing a woman in realspace would never have the guts to say or do the things they do on-line using Skype.

HOW I MET MY SWEETY
I wanted to meet an amazing woman that could be my soul mate. I hate bars to meet women and I don't drink or smoke. I wanted to meet a woman who is not necessarily a computer techy but comfortable with the Internet and computers. So what better place to meet such a lady then with Skype. And I was hoping to find a lady who lives in a tropical country. I live in Montreal, Canada and I hate cold.. So with this in mind I began searching.

I use the Skype Search to look for women who speak English (sometimes who speak French) and are in the Skype me mode. When I see a profile and/or a picture that is of my taste then I would say hello and hope for a reply. Because Skype is not as popular as the other big 3 IM's the user base is still somewhat small in comparison (for now). So I don't and in any case can't narrow my search more then “women”, “language” and “Skype Me mode”.

I realized quickly using Skype searches that many women don't answer IM's from “strangers” for many reasons. I never call anyone right out of the blue. I eventually got tired of typing a short introduction message without getting any answer. And for those who wonder I would only send it once or maybe twice if I saw something I liked in their profile (like they love photography). So I started using a little FREE program called Shortkeys http://shortkeys.com which help you make text macros. For example I would type “iiii” and the program would spit out this message below which is the same one I sent to my sweety which she replied to.

I have made some good female friends which remain on my contact list from all over the world.

MY SWEETY
I met my sweety on July 4th 2006. Yes it has been only a month but what a month. She is a 41 year old single mother of 3 children from Guatemala (F7, F19, M22) one of which (F7) is adopted and has a below the knee amputation from birth. I think she is amazing for adopting a child with special needs. She also owns a beauty salon where she does nails and her business partner does the hair. I plan to spend the winter with her as a test for us and if all goes well I will move all my stuff there in the spring of 2007.

We spend more then 4 hours a day talking to each other via Skype with web cam and microphone. We even have cyber sleep. This is when we have the cams on while we sleep so we fall asleep and wakeup together. Skype has permitted us to get to know each other very very well in preparation for our first face to face meeting which can't be soon enough.

I will be updating this thread message if it is still here in 6months to a year.

Sometimes we can get through life wishing to have moments where we can feel alive. As time goes by, and nothing happened, You just exist.

I was like that and I was using the "Skype Me Mode", but not so often. One day I receive a very curious message . He send a lot of pictures of himself. And that is unusual.

Most men usually ask for my picture first. And when I saw his wonderful smile, I said to myself,
"Girl, you must answer him".

It was strange, because I felt a very special connection with him. Like it was meant to be. At first I was very careful but inside I felt a magical moment was happening to me!!!

It has been just a month, but, it feels like we now each other for a life time.

We just talk about everything. We have many similar points of view. And when we differ in opinions we can talk about it.

And it`s incredible because my way of life is unusual around here. We can talk for hours. Sometimes we just enjoy looking at each other`s beautiful smile, his beautiful smile.

Our soul mate are out there, just waiting for us. They`re just a keyboard away!!!!

Ok, now I have to write a follow-up reply to my last message.

What can i say, Skype has changed my life completely! Four weeks ago i flew back to Croatia to see my girlfriend and came back last week a fiancé! I'm very proud to say we're getting married and we are having a baby in November or December this year! Yippee!

I know some people will say we haven't known each other for long enough, but when you find your soul mate you cannot let them go! We can feel each other inside us, we know each others thoughts and feelings, we love everything we do together - the good and the bad. We love each other just for who we both are, our differences are attractive and our similarities we relish in sharing. Which fools would let all that go?

I couldn't let us part without knowing we would be together forever. So on St. Patrick's Day I proposed, and she gave me the great honour of saying "YES! YES! YES!". And to top off the weekend we found out we will be having a baby as well! I'm not normally one to tell anyone about my personal life, this is quite out of character. But now I've found love its like a whole world has opened up and I want to tell everyone everything.

At the moment everything is so painful because we are not together. Thankfully over Easter my fiancé and children will be coming to visit my parents and family in the UK and planning our wedding. We'd love to have it in May this year because Croatia has fantastic weather. Don't know how we're gonna afford it as we have no money at the mo', but we don't really care about that at the moment (if u'd like to send a wedding gift can i suggest paypaling a contribution to my email address? *hopeful grin*). In our hearts we're already married, only the official stuff and celebration have to be done. Then in June we’ll be moving to Ireland to live and our new baby comes six months later. I can’t wait!!!

My husband and I mostly live apart the last seven years. He has been working in Northern Ireland most recently, but before that Hungary, and before that Bangladesh. I go over and stay with him for several weeks or a few months, but we keep a permanent home in the US, and I keep that up.

We use Skype everyday. After he gets out of work, we talk for at least 1/2 hour, sharing what happened that day. On the weekends, we have coffee together in the morning, and play a game together in the evening. We often send a link with Chat to share news, to talk about a trip we plan to take together or to shop together.

Our girls are in their mid twenties and they often join us with the conference feature.

Skype has made a significant difference in our lives. Our arrangemen probably wouldn't work for a younger couple, but for us, with Skype, we have remained a close couple and family.

This is my story of how i met my boyfriend now of 3 months , it all started on skype . In a skype cast i was there with a group of friends which id met through Skype and My boyfriend came in from that moment i heard his voice and seen his picture i knew i wanted to get to know this guy , there something i felt that could be and i was right . I have talked to him before but he never really replied , i was determind to get to know him .We started tallking and It was mostly in skypecasts i asked one day can we talk one to one so i finally can get to know him , he was putting it off at first but finally we did our friendship grew while as our love for eachother its still growing as we speak .

We spent most of our time together on Skype though there is disadvantages it mostly has its good , my boyfriend is in the United Kingdom and I'm in Ireland . just an ocean which departs us from being together but it wont stop us from being together our love is so strong for eachother.

Skype was a great tool for us otherwise Skype i probally would of never found my soul mate .

Joking aside;
We did meet up in Skypecasts a few months ago and Love is definitely in the air.
Whenever anyone told me that they had met someone online I always politely changed the subject but surely the look of horror on my face and the snigger gave away what I was thinking.

"Are you MAD? He/ She must be desperate, picking up some pervy Rabbit Boiling Psychopath.. I can't believe I am actually talking to this looser. I need to make an excuse to leave, hmm, I forgot to water the plants before I came out this morning, must dash, Bye or My pet budgie is ill and needs me, sorry, Bye."

Again Joking aside;
I was just as skeptical as the next person and I suppose with good reason. We have all heard stories about people being lured to a terrible rendezvous online, pedo's freaks and just plain dangerous individuals to use the internet too believe it or not. Then there is the average ways of meeting people implanted into our psyche.
Bars, Restaurants, Clubs, Work, through friends, but always in person and always offline to if you too are skeptical I can understand why.

Vicky rightly mentioned there being disadvantages to meeting online.
We have never actually met, I have not been fortunate enough to be held by Vicky, I have not been able to run my fingers through her beautiful long hair and I can't give her a kiss good night.
YET.

The advantages far out way the disadvantages.

Meeting on Skype has saved us both a fortune for a start. Thousands of hours on a phone would not be pretty when the bill came, considering the fact that the calls would be International.
When we do meet there is no travel time involved so we get longer together. We get to see each other via the cams. We can enjoy our Music together, view the same web pages together, share files, tunes, poetry or whatever we want. Lately we have even been watching movies together, both sat at our PC with our web cams and audio through Skype and to us it is the next best thing to sitting together on the sofa watching a Movie.

I think the biggest advantage to meeting up online is what we can't do.
Allow me to explain;
We have no choice but to communicate effectively. Nothing to get in the way, noisy bars, friends coming along, getting stuck in traffic, nerves, finances.
We can do much more than talk, but the foundation of our relationship is communication.
I know more about Vicky than I could ever put into words and the more I know the more I am sure Vicky is the one for me.

Vicky sorry for comparing, but when I compare this relationship with other relationships I have had in the past it is obvious to me that we have been able to achieve far more in far less time, months less and what we have achieved together is a lot more stable too.

In short meeting Vicky is the best thing that has happened to me for a very long time. We have plans for the future and all I want to do is get on with turning them into reality. Meeting online might seem unconventional, but falling in Love is the most natural thing in the world.

It is unlikely we would have even met was it not for Skype and the Skypecasts so obviously we both think Skype is amazing, it has clearly made our lives richer and more exciting.

How we met

I don't really remember how it happened, but I think that one day I was looking for some girls and then I found Natali, that's her name. We talked for some time on this very first day and then we kept on talking for the following months, but since there's a big time difference bewteen our countries (6 hours) it was kinda hard to find the other online. Anyway, we were only good friends and at the ending of 2006 I travelled to the northeastern of Brazil, I was even talking to Natali here while I was getting dressed to go to the aiport. I spent like 20 days without talking to her cuz we didn't have each other's e-mail and there weren't cyber cafés with Skype where I was. When I came back to Rio the magic happened!

The beginning

We started talking again and for some unknown reason things were different, we started flattering each other, we also started to spend more and more time talking and when we realized we were valentines. I took her cellphone number and started to call her, I was always think about her and we both even reached the point of not going to some places or not spending too much time out of our houses on the weekends only to talk to each other.

How we are now

It's been like two months since we began to talk to each other like valentines and I really can't think about another thing but her. Natali is always on my mind and she is responsible for lots of moments of happiness that I have. I really adore her and no matter what I do I am always thinking of her. We spend about six hours talking on Saturdays and Sundays, and there are days when we spend even more time. I have several pictures of her on my computer and I often take a look at them before I go to bed.
I've been saving money since the beginning of this year cuz I wanna visit her in December, so whenever I have to buy something or spend money with something I try to spend the least possible cuz now the aim of my life to be with her.

Just some more comments

I think everything with us happened on the right time and our story will have a happy ending. If we had begun dating last year it would have been harder for us cuz last year I was unemployed so I couldn't promisse her that I'd visit her. But now I have a job and I'll do my best to make this dream come true. Posting our story here is also a way to show the world how much I like Natali and how much important she is to me. Later I'll post the next episodes of our story.

how do i start meeting people on skype. I'm new.

I split from a 23 year relationship in Nov.07. I was happily single and expecting to stay that way.
Around this time I started on facebook, looking up old friends, wanting contact with home,(Canada,) as I now live in Australia.

In Jan.08, amongst the friends I found, was a guy I'd gone out with, briefly, in high school. We started emailing. In May we started skype chatting and within a week or two we nervously made our 1st skype call. Thank you skype.

We are so inlove, and so convinced it was meant to be...
Why else would I, a non-techy, have picked a 3 skype phone?
Why else would we both have decided we could no longer take the long-term relationships we were in,(prior to contact!)
What made me look up my old Canadian school friends and even more importantly, Why had he registered on facebook only 2 weeks before I typed in his name.
Most especially, How had he kept his love for me going, unrequited, for 32 years!
I am so lucky, to have found him when he was ready to be found.
We are skype talking twice a day when possible. (4 hours sometimes.) Its really hard when we are on opposite times of day. But through skype we have come to know each other so well. We feel like we live for our skype calls and are miserable when anything interferes.

Now I'm going home for 2 months; to visit all my family and friends, and to meet my new man! If its as good when we meet, as it is on skype, there will be wedding bells....
