Full Version: Changes to SkypeWeb

We made a few changes to the way SkypeWeb works.

If you haven’t chosen to display your presence, then rather than displaying the CallMe image, we now display an I’m not telling image.

Also you will be pleased to hear that we have fixed the issue where the XML string would return someone invisible status. If you set your status to invisible then you will appear OffLine when someone queries your status.

Finally the problem with the Offline status not working correct, we have fixed the problem, as it part of the client it will be available when we launch. There won’t be an interim build available.

I have to say I don't like the "I'm not telling" buttons. I'd much prefer some generic Skype branding. If you came on one of these, it's not at all clear that it's about Skype. I may still want to publish my Skype link and have this button launch a chat/voice or contact request even if I don't want to broadcast my presence or simply haven't upgraded yet. In which case a simple Skype logo is fine, rather than this.

I found the call ME picture better.

But still doesn't solve the problem of users "logging off because of a computer crash" or because of an ISP crash or something similar! I regret to inform you but you do not fix the Offline problem (only part of it). Yesterday I shutdown my computer as I do usually and in my second PC I test my status in my blog and I was online??? (This after installing the 20079 version).

Funny! Just Funny...not to make other comments.

Jean Mercier already talked about the problem of having a problem in the IP service or a crash in the PC.

But not to be able to show that your status is Offline with the Computer shuteddown???

Now I know I need to QUIT Skype before I shutdown my PC.

The only justification I see in this implementation is that your programmers does not shutdown there computers that's why they did not test or think about this situation.

I hope that I could help you to solve the problem.

What could some one that saw ONLINE in my blog and try to contact me and I did not answer???

This is still a BETA version of SKYPEWEB?

Not too much - you simply wouldn't answer, just as if you were busy with something else. Or does "online" mean for you sitting in front of the PC, waiting for someone to contact you?

When I'm online I don't always react immediately to contact attempts, sometimes I have other things to do first.....

But anyway, this still seems to be a problem that needs to be fixed (Haven't tried yet). When testing, did you allow some time to update the status (network & server latency, it might take some seconds/minute to update your web status)?

Version 2.0.0.79.

If you set privacy option to show online status, it is shown.
If you then set privacy option not to show online status, webpage says "I'm not telling".
If you then return privacy option to show online status, webpage continues to show "I'm not telling" (even after 30 minutes and with a different browser).

Reboot (ie new Skype log-in) cures problem but people may change from show online status to not show and back to show during a long day if PC is on all the time.

Sometimes i wonder if they skype.png test before launching!

This just points up again, that "I'm not telling" is the wrong message. it should be completely generic skype branding as it was at the start of the beta program. As it is, there's really nothing in that image to tell someone looking at it, that it has anything to do with Skype.

And there's a difference between "I've disabled web presence" from "I didn't know I could enable it" and "I haven't upgraded yet".

I don't think I can use Skypeweb on my site while we continue to have "I'm not telling"

It's true that people who have never heard of Skype will not know what the button icon refers to, so I just put "Skype:" in front of the button in my web page.

I did the same!
I also agree the i am not telling is really not a message to display: it sounds negative ...

I will probably also remove Webpresence from my webspace if they don't correct very soon the mistakes! I agreed to make a "test", but i can not have "unprofessional" things on my "professional" website!
jbond
But it doesn't really work for the small icons. I'm using these after people's names as the Skype equivalent of the MSN butterfly, AOL, ICQ and YM! icons. Again, having a grey question mark for people who haven't enabled presence or haven't upgraded doesn't look good.

hi,

what about the status "in a call"? Is there any posibility to show this stat?

what about icons with transparent background?

And a note. The re-organisation of the main skype website means there is now no link to the forums. http://www.skype.com/community/forums.html redirects to http://www.skype.com/share/ Ooops.
And a note. The re-organisation of the main skype website means there is now no link to the forums.
I hunted and hunted and finally found one under the help option. Certainly Skype is not encouraging participation in the forums - to me this is the community.

There are links to forums on every page on skype.com if you just bother to scroll down smile.png

Good point and a good illustration of how many visitors do not scroll down or read the dim footnote text at the bottom (never paid any attention to it). But now that I know that it is there, I can easily find it. Thanks for pointing that out.
... a good illustration of how many visitors do not scroll down ...
I agree 100%: i guess the growth of Forum visitiors will slow down!

Hello,

Today I see that my small classic skype status icon is not appearing. Just a small x in a box. What has happened?
ozskyper
I don't like the "I'm Not Telling" If somebody does not show their status then nothing should be shown. Worse still when the status is not working like now as I type this then you again see "I'm Not Telling" this is wrong it should be "I'm Not Working"
