I live in the US and am traveling in France. I want to have an Unlimited US and Canada monthly subscription so I can telephone the US while I'm in France. The subscription rate is 5.95 if I select location: Europe and 2.95 if I select location: US. I don't know which location to choose. Do I select the location where I live or the location where I am currently? It's a bit confusing.

Select the Subscription for the place you want to call to. Skype is global, so it doesn't matter where you are calling from.

Thanks for that. I wouldn't persist except that the subscription to call US and Canada if you choose location: Europe is $5.95. If you choose the same subscription and choose location: US, the price for the subscription is $2.95. So it would seem location DOES matter. Skype knows that my computer is located, at this moment, in France. So when I try to select a plan, it automatically directs me to the European plan. I am able to change the location to the US, and then the price re-sets.
I've sent the question twice to customer service. The first response merely said that they would convert my preferred currency to USD from Euros. But they completely ignored the question.

I understand.

You are seeing 2 different plans.

Unlimited US & Canada is the $2.95 plan. That's the one you need.

Unlimited Country (USA) or Unlimited Country (Canada) are regular "Unlimited Country" plans. These used to include a free Online Number, hence the higher price, but that is now obsolete.

Well thanks. I'd hate to have spent extra to purchase an obsolete plan! The subscription plan selection page is strangely confusing, especially if it includes obsolete plans...And since it does have the selector for location. I'm one of those who likes to understand and I still don't, but I appreciate you telling me which to select. Anyway, it's not my job. Skype's lucky to have helpful users as unpaid (?) employees clarifying their business for the uninitiated.

If anything remains unclear please advise.

Well Norman, it's still unclear to me why there's a choose location menu if the only thing that matters is which country you want to call. There's an Unlimited Country (USA) plan under the "location: Europe" menu and it costs $5.95. AND there's an Unlimited USA plan under "location: US" menu and it costs $2.95.

Spud5 says "Select the plan for where you want to call to" and "You are seeing 2 different plans.

But actually the $5.95 price only pops up when you choose Location: Europe.

There's nowhere that explains what "Location" means. Does it mean where you generally live or does it mean where you are at the moment you subscribe?

I still haven't subscribed because I'm a bit nervous that whichever I select, I've a 50% chance of getting it wrong.

It means where you are accessing the internet from but in any case it is irrelevant.
You can choose any Unlimited Plan offered in any location.
There are no restrictions.
If you want to call to/within the USA/Canada purchase Unlimited USA/Canada at $2.95 as Spud5 has advised.
