I am really confused with all the skype options.
I am a mexican studying in the US and I want to get a skype phone to be in contact with my family without the computer. I don't know if I should just get a skypephone or a skype number (skype to go?).
I haven't bought a cell phone yet, cause I don't know what is best. If a cheap nokia that allows skype, or a blackberry that is much more expensive. I don't make many calls in the US, I don't know that much people, but I need a local phone for the college needs.
I know I'd like to receive from mexico: skype calls, land calls + be able to call mexico skype and landlines.
So I don't know if I should get 2 skype numers, one for each country or what to do. I also have available the gooogle number unactivated yet.
Users, Help me decide/understand the best combination
Thanks.
you sound like a good candidate for an iPhone, but I guess it depends on how long you will be studying in the US -- you also might even consider an iPod Touch if you know you will have easy access to WiFi
very soon you will be able to make Skype calls using the ATT's 3G data network, rather than having to rely on the availability of WiFi -- you'll need an iPhone rather than iPod Touch to use 3G, but the advantage is 3G coverage
so you could make Skype or SkypeOut calls to anyone -- the Unlimited Mexico subscription (which also includes Canada and the US) might be just the ticket, especially since enrollment would also qualify you for a discount on an Online/SkypeIn number
http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/subscriptions/mexico/Skype Online numbers are available for Guadalajara, Mexico City, or Monterrey -- people who call Online numbers in any of these cities would pay for that call as if it were a 'local' call (this might also mean that the call is free), so this could make calling you from Mexico very cheap and convenient -- not sure you would need an Online number for where you are now, but if you had one, you could potentially make and receive ALL your calls via Skype -- if you opt for the iPod Touch over the iPhone, then a local Online number might make a lot of sense
