Just installed a wireles router on a new XP sp2 system. Have installed 2.0.0.73.
At login it comes up with a message that it cannot connect. All the help on this topic is to reboot the router. I have no firewall on the pc running.
Any ideas?

With updating SKYPE sometimes your firewall must be updated.
Exit/Close your current Skype by clicking in system try Skype icon (down near the right corner green spot) and choosing “Quit” from there if needed.
Open firewall, in programs, delete Skype.
Run Skype and allow to connect

This also effects SP2 users who should follow above procedure.

With SP2 firewall.
Disabling external firewall will enable XP firewall by default.
So if you disable any other firewall XP firewall will now block your connections.
So remove Skype from XP firewall program list as well

With reference to not being able to connect with you router, there is a built in FIREWALL in the Linksys Router. I just use one of the other ports and all works well.

I use a WRT54G without any problems whatsover, and I haven't altered any settings in the router for Skype. But perhaps you have made some changes that do affect Skype. What you describe sounds like a firewall problem - I have got the same sort of message in the past when I have omitted to add an IP range to my Zone Alarm firewall.

So try checking the router firewall. I have it enabled on my router with the following settings:

Additional Filters - I have no boxes checked

Block Anonymous Internet Requests YES
Filter Multicast YES
Filter Internet NAT Redirection NO
Filter IDENT(Port 113) YES

With some routers you must explicitly allow p2p applications to connect (on specific ports); browse your router setup for such options....
(I am using Netgear so I can't help you on this one)

If the WRT54G is running the standard Linksys firmware there is no such requirement - Skype just works straight out of the box with it.

It's a problem with the number of connections overloading the router. It's a known problem in the WRT54G community. This fix should solve your problem...just get the HyperWRT firmware and follow the directions you'll see in this thread: http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?nam...viewtopic&t=847

Also Poor Quality:
Try Port Triggering, Disable "Block WAN Ping" and finally the latest f/w that they came out @ 16th December days back. Port Triggering didn't work, the disabling of block WAN ping helped and my audio is much better now

Yes, I should have said that I run HyperWRT on my Linksys and had it installed before I started using Skype. Certainly I've never had any problem with Skype and the WRT54G.

Okay, Things tried sofar...
- upgraded FW to v1.00.6 (the router is a v.5)
- upgraded skype to 2.0.0.79
- on router tried disable WAN block, tried DMZ

So, I am a little lost. I do not know all fancy details of networking, hence I do not know what all options can be with the router. Do I need to setup either a port forward or port trigger? Thanks

Take a look here for how to set up YOUR routers port forwarding:
http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

Please find an example on how to open ports.

4) It is "Some routers apparently think Skype is port scanning, and temporarily block all internet access". A number of routers/access points behave strangely with Skype. Most frequent reports are about D-Link 604/614 and Linksys BEFSR41/BEFSX41, but there are others as well. Some of it are straight bugs in router firmware, e.g. D-Link 614 firmware versions earlier than 2.33 crash the router (yes) if there are more than 1000 NAT entries.

I've used two WRT54G's and 1 WRT54GS and never had any problems with Skype even before changing any settings. The problem the WRT54G series has with some P2P apps is that it keeps the connections too long and they overload the router. However, up until it crashes (or slows down a lot) the router still works with those apps. I don't think the router is the problem.

Disable the firewall in the router but not before you enable the XP firewall, and see whether you can connect ok. Also, check the router log it may give you an idea of what is happening when you try to connect.

Hello, I just received the Netgear SPH200W WiFi phone, but when I try to connect to my home wireless connection after entering the key it says "Could not connect". Do you have any idea if it is an issue with my WRT54G router or with the phone itself? Note that I have two laptops currently connected.
I would really appreciate any kind help!
Thank you
Neil
