I signed up for the Skype Zones service with Skype/Boingo. They have two plans: "Unlimited" (which is actually only 300 minutes per month, and so their novel use of the word "Unlimited" should set off alarm bells) and "AsYouGo". The "Unlimited" plan requires a recurring monthly fee, but for the "AsYouGo" plan you simply purchase credits as and when you need them ... or so I thought!
I have not used the "AsYouGo" service, yet they have started taking money from my account. Nowhere in their service agreement does it say that they will start taking money from the moment of sign up! I chose the "AsYouGo" plan so I would have control over when and how much I spend on this service, which as I say I haven't started to use yet!
Here are the words from their sign-up page: "Pay as you go with a $2.95 fee per connection, allowing up to 2 consecutive hours of Skype access to a single Skype Zones location."
"$2.95 per connection"? What connection? What 2hrs of service? I haven't used their service yet!
Just as the "Unlimited" plan is misnamed (it should be the "300 minutes per month" plan), so too their "AsYouGo" plan is misnamed (it should be the "AsWeTakeYourMoney" plan). Just FYI!
Just say NO to Skype Zones!
