Just started to use Skype - phone calls at first sight appear to be cheap to land lines but are they..................?

1. They do not charge per sec but by the minute. So 1min and 1sec = Charge for 2 mins.

2. Dial a number and no one picks up - call not answered. You hang up. Charge however is for the first minute - even though you did not get through.

Would anyone care to comment or add further details

Have experieced the same and changed to other providers e.g. VoipStunt (www.voipstunt.com). Here you can call landlines in 37 countries without being charged anything and sound quality is excellent. Like SkypeOut you have to make an account of Eur 10 (same as SkypeOut). But I still use Skype for pc2pc as that is free and for that sound quality is the best.

Correct
2. Dial a number and no one picks up - call not answered. You hang up. Charge however is for the first minute - even though you did not get through.
Not my experience - in fact they don't charge for the first five seconds so if, for example, you hear an answer machine answer and don't want to leave a message, if you hang up in less than five seconds you don't (or shouldn't!) get charged.
1. They do not charge per sec but by the minute. So 1min and 1sec = Charge for 2 mins.
This is clearly stated at the web page -> http://www.skype.com/products/skypeout/rat...es.html
2. Dial a number and no one picks up - call not answered. You hang up. If this is not the case (please check your acount page), please go here http://support.skype.com/?_a=tickets&_m=submit and submit a ticket to Billing/Payments with full details, Skype needs them to look into your problem. Note that a reply can take 2-4 working days.
