Over the weekend, I had a Skype call. 4 of us were in California, and 7 of us were in Florida. We had two laptops setup running Skype. It was a family event, and we were all having dinner. (well, dinner in Florida --late lunch for us in California)
It was very cool -- audio quality was great -- in California, we used a Bose Wave radio as the "audio output". People who had never used a computer before were using Skype to talk to relatives.
Now that we've had
that experience, it would be a natural extension to have a camera and do video as well. Only, computer screens are too small. What I need is an easy way to hook the video up to a TV -- so everyone can see really clearly -- from a couch or dinner table rather than hunched around a computer screen.
What I would really like is a wifi device which could hook up to my TV -- so I could redirect video from my laptop to the TV. Does anyone know of such a device?
This would be so cool for coast-to-coast holidays.
I am convinced that this audio+video configuration defines a new experience -- one which goes way past the telephone.

I have a 27 inch flat-screen TV which also can function
as a regular computer screen. It did cost less than 800 Euros.
Or one may call the screen a computer screen which also can be used
as a TV.
Anybody tried video on a similar screen ?

How did you conference 7 people. SKYPE is basically limited to 5 (incl host)

Like I said, we used two laptops, hence, it was a 2 party call. There we 11 people in total. 4 using Skype on one laptop, 7 using Skype on the other laptop.

Obviously either a mic or speakerphone at each end, or they were taking turns.

What he's saying is that it was a 2 party call. Each end of the conversation had a group of folks with a single Skype connection supporting video and voice.

I think he means ... a few people were in the same room.. get it? Like if I had 25 people in my house now and I called a friend on skype etc. it's still be a one on one conference!

yes you can buy a wifi media player!! Bascially with that u have a remote control which lets u change the screen and navigate ur pc screen
and select the program u want to run!!
The one support mp3s can cost about $20
and the onces supporting video the lowest i have seen is about $130 or so
You just attach this thing to ur TV and have a remote with it
