I am on wifi, Safari and others work just fine. Still, Skype argues that:
"You're offline
You need to be online to make a call"
Why? What can be done?

Did you touch "My Info" and check the value in "Status". It should read "Online".

Silly me, that was exactly the problem. I confused 'online' as being connected with having an online status (or at least not an offline status), like any other IM.
They could have thought of a clearer wording...
