i'm new to skype. i've looked at postings, google searched, asked friends and still can't find an answer. here's what's happening. i can make a skype call to a friend and hear him just fine, but he can't hear me. (i.e. same experience with the skype test call - no playback of me speaking.)

here's what i've done:
downloaded and installed skype 2.8.0722 for mac
mac has 4 gb memory, running os x 10.4.11
i'm using a usb headset
in system preferences, sound panel, input selection is my usb VoIP device and on the sound panel, as i speak into the mic, the "vu meter" moves accordingly....

so what's up?

i would appreciate any help. i'm probably overlooking the obvious. please clue me in....

thanks.

It may not be all that obvious, but have you looked into Skype's Audio preferences to ensure that your mic is the selected device? That might be the problem, in spite of the fact that you've selected it in the Mac's System Preferences.

thanks preminger. that was the problem. skype preferences listed "digital line in" and after i switched the selection to the usb headset, i could then hear my test recording. Great!
