small issue:
On Fedora Core 2, when it didn't remember my password and after a failed loing, tray displays as a small window instead of being in the panel.
Restarting it brought the tray back in panel, in notification area.
Also, as other post said, starting minimized in tray by default would be great.
Thanks!

My trayicon is always a small window and I have no idea, how to paste it on the panel. I can drag this small-window-tray around the desktop, but cant drag it over the panel. How MUST it work?
All versions of SkypeLinux
Gnome-qt3.3.2

Same here, a small window is hanging around instead of being in some bar or something.
I'm using kernel 2.6.7-r5 (gentoo)
gnome 2.6.1

In Gnome: try to add the "notification area" to the panel. Skype should then add the icon in this area. If not, try to restart skype.

notification area is already there. Skype won't start in it sometimes, can't reproduce though.

With auto-launch, only on rare ocassions does it show it's icon in the tray/notification area. If I manually launch Skype, I can usually get it to launch "into" the tray in Gnome (I don't really use KDE). Sometimes, however, I have to explicitly switch to another virtual desktop and then launch it to get it into the tray.
No, it's not a show-stopper, but it's a bit irritating. Other apps, like Gaim, launch into the tray just fine.

In my case I always had to lunch skype twice to make the small window go into the notification area. I'm using gnome 2.8 by the way.

Lot's of duplicate threads on this. Should add a sticky or something!
Yeah, I see this too.
Usually, when I log into gnome and it restores my programs, skype ends up with a floating NotArea icon. That's because Gnome may start Skype before gnome-panel.
It's an application bug, not Gnome.
Most Gnome apps use libegg (I think) which has the correct logic.
