Hi All,
Thanks for any help.
I'm running skype 2.8 (new newest version) and also tried downloading the old version 2.7 to see if it fixed my problem but sadly it didn't.
I deleted all the library / user files that were associated with skype and restarted my computer. I've also done all the system apple OS updates including any quicktime ones.
Sadly, it still crashes on launch or when someone tried to phone me ect.
I'm attaching my most recent crash logs if they help?
Thanks so much in advance

Please
enable logging.
Make sure you are on 2.8 hotfix (2.8.0.722) from
here before posting any logs.
Then please reproduce the problem and upload all 3 Skype debug log files (lib log, ui log and trace log). Make sure you also upload the crash log from
User/Library/Logs/CrashReporter.
Also let me know if you have any kind of external devices connected to your Mac.

Hi Dimitris,
Thanks for the reply! I've done my best and I think I've enabled the skype de bug logs!

I happen to be logged into skype on my second computer (another mac, that's working fabulously!) as I have to be on skype for work all day so I hope that doesn't affect these logs, but if so, please ignore that if possible?
Anyhow, skype shuts down before it even really ever launches now. It used to be ok until someone called or partially through a conversation.
I'm most certainly on the most recent version that you mentioned.. promise!
And as far as external connections to my computer.. there is nothing directly attached. Though, we do run off airport extreme and express and have a HD and Printer hooked up to that.
Sorry, hope this helps! THanks so much! Please let me know if I've done anything wrong!

I have the same problem (also OS X 10.5.8). Just downloaded and joined today, so SW is up to date. Was fine until I shut down the program and tried to start it again. Then the icon in the dock just hopped up and down a few times and then stopped, with no dot underneath to indicate it was running. Also did not start up automatically when I rebooted. Same issue (icon just hopped up and down a few times). I re-downloaded and re-installed the SW, but what happens next time...

Unfortunately you never uploaded any crash log.
Please look in the folder User/Library/Logs/CrashReporter
There should be many crash logs there.
Please attach all of them if possible (individually or zip them). If not, just the ones matching the date with the Skype debug logs you already attached.
This is the only way to investigate your issue.

Finally found this latest post. I'm having same problems, crashing before opening, although I managed to get 'one' message sent in skype chat, one time.
I've attached the user/thingymebob file (you can tell I'm technically challenged) and the crash report to apple one as well.
Any suggestions to fix this would be appreciated

Ok, I've fallen at the FIRST hurdle
I've followed these instructions: "Mac OS = to enable skydebug logging, go to: macusername -> Library -> Application Support -> Skype and open shared.xml and enter after </Localnode> these lines"
In "Application Support" Folder - there is NO = Skype and open shared.xml
Oh dear, what next please?
thanks

Just to let you know that my issues
have NOW BEEN RESOLVEDNo idea what downloading the new skype version did, but (it) messed up my fireworks app, and after reporting that crashing to adobe, they updated something or other
(technical term for I have no idea what) and after a restart, fireworks
AND SKYPE worked perfectly.
I'm back online with skype, back using fireworks....and
now I have found that joy you're fond of

Hello Dimitris:
3 days ago I updated my Skype client for the Mac (10.5.

from ver 2.7x that was running flawlessly to version 2.8.0.722 (2.8.0.722). Every time I try to launch the application it hangs and when I right click on the app icon in the task bar "Application not responding" is the message. This is very annoying and is costing me a lot now in phone charges to Europe and time lost.
I have attached the log sent to Apple. There are no Skype-specific logs in my user directory and none that are dated at or after I did the Skype application update.
• I have trashed the application ver 2.7x from my application folder
• I have trashed my application preference file from my user directory
• I have trashed my Skype Application Support information from my user directory
Please, is this a known issue and what can I do to get up and running? Is there a way to download ver 2.7 x that works for the Mac.
Thanks

I also can't launch Skype since the 2.8 update. The dock icon jumps a few times and then nothing happens.
I tried uninstalling Skype using AppCleaner, re-downloading and re-installing Skype (2.8.0.722). It still doesn't launch.

I tried enabling Skype logging as it is described in the link in the second or third post, but Skype doesn't create log files since it doesn't even launch.
I'll get back to my Time Machine disk tomorrow and will then try to go back to Skype 2.7 to see if that works.

2.8.0.438 ( BETA) on Mac OS 10.5.8 Macbook pro
Hi folks
Having similar problem.Reinstalled Skype 2.8.0.438 after updated 2.8.0.722 version crashed on launching and have found it ( 2.8.0.438) freezes often and will not enable me to quit active chat box ( cant X out of it!) I have also noticed that sometimes the application doesn't fully render on screen. When clicking some Contacts in the contact list window they fail to respond with a drop down.
When on a call I don't have any issues.
As this is becomming a serious and common problem, rather than chasing down more crash logs I was wondering if there is a fix on the way??

Fri Oct 23 2009, 07:58
I was running Skype 2.8.0.722 (13495) under OS 10.6.1 and I had exactly the same problem (a couple of bounces in the Dock and then nothing) with "Check 2 failed. Can't run Skype" shown in the Console log. For me, downloading and re-installing the same version of the app fixed my problem. I assume something in the app package must have become corrupt.
Note that before I fixed my problem, I did enable Skype debug logging as suggested earlier in the thread, but the app never got far enough in the launch process to actually write out any logs. After I re-installed the app, logs were created.

Hi all I was running Skype 2.7 .(something) and saw the upgrade message to 2.8.0.722 stupidly I upgraded.
I don't necessarily crash during loading. However I have constant call drop outs. No matter whether I initiate the call or the other party does.
Skype will connect and for a period of time then call just disconnects. No matter how many times I try or other party tries to call me back the calls just won't connect.
This is very frustrating as I am continually having to quite Skype and then wait to log back into make the call.
I have removed Skype and reinstalled and the the problem remains.
I say to anyone with Mac 10.6.X don't use it..... it's woeful! Dreadful..... frustrating and very annoying...
Anyone use a similar product that is better?
Thanks

No official statement/solution/reply, but my problem was fixed with Skype 2.8.0.722 .
Didn't get that on Skype site, but on download.cnet.com,
However, it looks like one of the earlier posters, Ozcarwylde, installed that version of Skype & that's when his problems started. So, go figure.....

Ozcarwylde could solve the problem by re-downloading and re-installing the same version. In my case, this did not help and I downgraded to 2.7 from my Time Machine backup. I guess I won't update again before 2.9 is out.
