eBay is holding a 10-cent listing day on Tuesday, December 27, 2005. During the 1-day promotion, auction and fixed-price listings will cost 10 cents to list.
...
The promotion announcement came Monday evening from eBay's North American President Bill Cobb, who said the promotion is being sponsored by Skype, the VoIP service recently acquired by eBay.

Skype has to subsidize eBay's low-cost listing event? Strange...

Hardly believe that they are actually paying for it. Just simple marketing from eBay.

The joy of international joined up companies. I am willing to bet a genuine bill passes from one to the other.

With the difference in currencies ($ and Euro). I bet this will somehow addup to the revenues of eBay on the +ve side.

The thing is they are completely separate companies so even if e-bay gain greatly from the promotion this will have no effect on Skype other than more people will have heard of it, who might spend money on it blah, blah blah..........

What's all the fuss about - Ebay do these cheap listings regularly and in different currencies at the same time. Remember there are lots of virgin Ebay sellers out there with christmas presents they want to get rid of......what better to get them interested in Skype.......

remember eBay plans to make Skype a pay-to-use "feature" within auction listings. eBay will charge per auction probably around $0.25/listing simply to be "allowed" to indicate that a seller has a Skype id to contact.

eBay will likely also add some POS applet (which will only function properly 40-50% of the time) that will allow contact w/o leaving the auction page. For an example of just how badly eBay applets run do a google on "eBay shipping calculator"...

So, this sort of promo was simply to introduce sellers who have never heard of Skype...many will marvel at this "cool new thing that eBay invented"...once eBay gets enough of them sucked into the trap and depend on Skype within their listings, the fees will appear...

Expect any people using Skype outside of eBay to see a slow and steady erosion of services as well as quality...see we are now viewed as a burden and detritus to be jetisoned...this is how eBay works and how Meg truly believes...read the eBay Community boards sometime to see what I am talking about...eBay is now all about the WalMart's and eBay China Reproduction/Knock-off sellers who list 10,000+ items/month...

Thank gawd there are other options to Skype...it was a fun ride while it lasted...
