I think that eBay/Skype will buy SunRocket and continue to market same as SunRocket however with the ability to interconnect with the ultimate soft phone, Skype.
You heard it here.

That will surely go down as the most off-the-wall prophesy for 2006. If I were Skype, I'd establish special price incentives for people transferring memberships to Skype from SunRocket and other VOIP services, but there's no way I'd buy a whole company, especially one with no technology. It might even be a good idea to open up the Skype portal to links to/from multiple VOIP services (voice only). But why on earth would Skype want to buy SunRocket?
Several reasons.
SunRocket is a great marketing company, controlled by former executives of MCI. Their service is excellent and yet they are still relatively small.
Skype would like to remain an internet voip provider so as remain unregulated and thus not be required to comply with regulations promulgated by the FCC, such as e911.
SunRocket planned to provided e911 from the beginning and thus they do not have a problem providing same. On the other hand, providers such as Lingo are no longer accepting new customers due to the fact that they cannot provide e911.
By buying SunRocket, eBay will be establishing a separate entity however since they own Skype they can interconnect to Skype while preserving Skype's virginity as an internet voip provider. Therefore, Skype will remain unregulated.
By becoming an eBay company, SunRocket can be marketed to the millions of eBay users virtually for free AND can piggyback on Skype by being the only voip provider which can interconnect with Skype.
SunRocket needs an exit strategy as they are still owned by the original founders together with several venture capital firms. Value will be accretive to both eBay and SunRocket should eBay purchase SunRocket.
Great minds think alike therefore the acquisition of SunRocket is already being contemplated, or will be.
Once eBay controls SunRocket and provides access to Skype they will automatically deflate the value of the competition eg. Vonage. Other providers will be forced to come hat in hand to eBay so as as to beg for inter-connectivity with Skype, thus the pipe dream of open standards SIP connectivity will be killed, forever.
It is all so diabolically, delicious.
