Did you read the above post?
If you paid by CC you do NOT need to go to your bank, who said that? As a new user you are restricted on first purchases to Euro10 (around £6)

I bought a SkypeIn number, and 2 x 5 GBP of credit last month. I've used all but 2.71 GBP (my current balance) which is equivalent to under about 3.95 EUR , but am still unable to buy credit, viz:
"We're sorry, you are currently not allowed to purchase additional Skype Credits because your account balance is over the allowable limit. You have to spend some of Skype Credits before you can buy more."
Any ideas?

Hi,
I have been using SKYPE for over 4 months now, and still it is limiting me to only 20 Euro per month on my Credit Card (Mastercard).
Other payment options like PayPal and Moneybookers are not available here were i live.
This is really frustrating me and has forced me to have to use an alternative provider when I can not purchase anymore credit due to this over stringent and inefficienct screnning/security methods.
Your help/suggestions please on how to resolve this.

No prizes for guessing - I've heard nothing...
Is this standard of customer service a taste of what's to come as Skype gets larger?

I've been buying my Skype credits with PayPal. Today, I decided to once again try my Visa card. Whoa! It WORKED! Skype finally got a Japanese processing company for those of us with Japanese-issued credit cards. Finally, the transaction cleared.
Lemme see here ...
Skype works on Linux.
I can buy credits with PayPal or Visa.
I can make international calls for nearly nothing with SkypeOut.
I can make international calls for absolutely nothing PC-to-PC.
Awesome. I'm absolutely delighted. Skype rocks. Thank you very, very much for this outstanding service.

I'm a very frustrated first time user. I went to pay for Skype Out credit. I was only offered two options, Moneybookers or bank transfer. There was no Paypal option.
I selected Moneybookers because I wanted to pay by credit card. I filled out and submitted the form. It said it was unable to verify my account, so I asked them to verify it and accepted the charge for verification. The response was that I would receive an authentication code with my next statement, i.e., a process that will take roughly 20 days.
I then decided to try a bank transfer to speed things up, but the information provided for payments via Global Collect is only sufficient to do a wire transfer, not a regular online banking transaction (for which I need a mailing address and the bank's telephone number, not an ABA wire code). A wire transfer costs $15 at my credit union - to buy $10 of Skype credits? That's absurd. It defeats the whole purpose of VOIP and makes my landline call rates look cheap.
Is there no way to just mail a check to Global Collect? At least that would take less than 20 days and not raise the cost 150%.
I've seen references on this forum to people paying via Paypal, but that option apparently isn't available for US bank account holders?

The payment option available to sexh person depends on where they live and where they login from to buy credit.
If you login or come from a country that has a very ban fraud record in Skype eyes then your payment limits will be very small, but if you login or come from a country with what skype call a low fraud risk then you payment options are much more.

You will only be able to buy credit the way it says on the web site when you login this is because of the high fraud risk in your country.

Hi. I tryed to buy credit to make calls using Bank Transfer Online, through Caixa Geral de Depósitos, my bank in Portugal. Even though it is one with which Skype has an agreement, the paymente reference they want me to input online is not possible. They want me to input a 12 digit number, but I can only input 8 o 9 digits. What should I do. I have emailed Skype once but got no answer.

I am setting up a Skype account for a university language center. I have authorization from my university to use an official university credit card to purchase an initial $300 U.S. in Skype credits. This is to be a public IP phone for our students and faculty, allowing them to place any call free, in other words, the university will pay the international Skype-Out charges.
I am very frustrated because I can only buy 10 Euros of credit at a time. Right now, we are only doing some light testing, but when our students arrive for the new term next month, I anticipate heavy usage, and I wouldn't like students to get a bad first impression of this new service because it keeps running out of credits.
I wrote to Skype support and received a form-letter response. I am glad that Skype is careful to prevent fraud, but I don't understand the advice posted in this forum "Join Skype Groups." I went to the /products/ page link, but I could find no reference to Skype Groups. I did join 'Skype for Business,' which seems similar, but I can't see how that changes the payment limits.
I would like to suggest that Skype reconsider its policies in the case of corporate / institutional users. It's reasonable to require some proof that the person is legitimate, but this system is inflexible and terribly inconvenient for those of us who seek to introduce everyone to Skype.

My bank info has been corrected since then, but I am still not able to buy credit. I have a $100 linksys cordless skype phone which is useless because of this. I have sent several support requests over the last month or 6 weeks to get this fixed with no response. Why is there no phone number to get help on important payment issuses like this?

It is not good enough to say "Please try another payment option on your account page..." when the credit card payment option is not possible. In many cases there are no other options.
To wit, I am in Mexico and have been paying with bank transfer (deposits) to Global Collect. This worked fine if somewhat slow.
The Global Collect option has now been removed, and so I have no options whatever to make a payment.
Paying cash in to a bank account is as free of fraud as possible. Citing potential fraud as an excuse is untruthful at best.
This is not only very poor service on the part of Skype, but is shortsighted, as I am sure that many others in my situation are now being barred from using Skype. Skype earns its money from the minutes its users spend. The more minutes, the better the bottom line. Preventing users from paying for minutes is a poor management strategy. In the telecomms business the bottom line depends on ARPU. Is Skype management not aware of this?
As a reference, may I suggest Skype look at the way Jajah has been set up. This will be serious competition. I would like Skype to succeed, but management needs to make some fundamental business changes.
Cheers

Cheers

Hello:
I recently received and email from Skype that contained the following:
"== What do I need to do? ==
Just make another Skype Credit purchase to add to your credit, or make
a SkypeOut call to anywhere you want. Alternatively, you could
Personalise Skype, by purchasing a new image or ringtone. It's up to you how
you spend your Skype Credit, you just need to keep your account active.
After you do any one of these, all of your Skype Credit is again
available for the next 180 days.
To make extra purchases, go to
http://www.skype.com/go/store. To make
SkypeOut calls, just use your Skype.
"
I tried to "just make another Skype Credit purchase", but I received an Error stating:
"We're sorry, you are currently not allowed to purchase additional Skype Credits because your account balance is over the allowable limit. You have to spend some of Skype Credits before you can buy more."
I tried calling someone in Taiwan to spend some credits, but everytime I click on Dial after typing in the phone number, the Skype software blows up without making the call.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Mike O.

Tried it. Skype still blows up as soon as I click on the green phone receiver button.
Other ideas?
Thanks for your help,
