Whats that all about then?

Edit....

Thats interesting but not Skype heh?

I wonder if I can get some drivers for my webcam there ( Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 )

Edit...

The video offered there is for the Debian distro, I am using NLD9 which is basically SuSE

The sooner people start supporting video for Linux the better, Skype could set a good example here.

It's a nice chat client w/ video for linux. If you browse the forums, there is an rpm, or you can compile the source like I did. I suggest the rpm. Gaim is supposed to be doing something in the way of video, and they've promised to release a beta version this friday. I use the cvs version, and no video yet.

Have you got a url for the rpm on the forum!

I will give it a whirl, although NLD9 is a bit fussy about what it installs through Red Carpet, which is good in my opinion.

Thanks

Here is the forum in which you find the converted rpm:

I wouldn't mind a working skype for linux. Noone I know cares in the slightest for video calling.

It's pretty cool; my roommate does it. It's not necessary, but certainly something that willl become standard in the future. Didn't you ever watch the Jetsons?

Noone around me cares, but I dig it bad ! I think it's great. All my friends live in different countries. My wife travels from time to time and I myself live abroad. I'd love to see the niece and nephews more often and have a bit of a chat with buddies and family in a really relaxed way that only hands free video calling would allow.

Anyway, I guess it's like with mobile fones, emails and all. I wish people had the same enthusiasm as with the TV and the phone like back in the days.

You can also use kopete wich works with Yahoo and MSN webcams. However, you can uses the webcams, you can chat, but you cannot talk, since it doesn't support voice chats yet.

You need KDE 3.5 however. But I have tryed and it worked. So for now you could use skype to talk and kopete to exchange webcam views.
